I am at the beginning of my journey to WLS.   I am trying to find someone on OH who has their insurance coverage through the employee coverage provided by USFoodservice.  (Cigna PPO)

If this applies to you, did you get coverage?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't work for USFoods, but like everything else, call your insurance and see what they say.

if they exclude WLS, then ask if it can be included the next time it is going to be changed.

The first place to start is with your Human Resource Department.  Ask them for a Summary Plan Description for your health plan.  They must, by law, provide this to you.

The SPA has everything actually, more than you ever wanted to know about your plan.  It should give you the info you need to find out wheather  your employer's plan covers weight loss surgery.

You see it's not CIGNA that would deny you coverage.  It depends on the plan your employer has.  Some cover it sadly many don't.  If you are lucky enough to have a plan that does cover WLS then you should call CIGNA to find out what their requirements are for approval of the procedure.

Then you just need to follow what they tell you through the pre-approval process.

Best of luck to you as you begin your journey.

Thanks for your help ladies.  Monday I will have my husband start making inquiries!  Is the SPA hard to get ahold of?

It is possible that HR doesn't have one on hand and my have to get one for you.  But, by law, they have to provide you with one if you ask for it.

Good luck!

I'm not insurance savvy but at my DS support group some of the people got their surgery covered by piecing together coverage for the gall bladder and appendix removal.  Personally, my PHCS covered the vertical gastrectomy and the gall bladder removal but not the duodenal switch itself - - - so far.  It's only been two months and the bills have all been covered but I haven't received the BIG ones yet.
