Congratulations Monica on your weight loss and the gym membership. One of the reasons we gain weight  is that we tend to put everyone first before ourselves. With this journey we need to make time to take care of us, to do things that are healthy and productive for ourselves. Those who truly love us want us to be healthy and take care of ourselves, that way we will be around much longer. Explain to Mike, lovingly, that this is something that is going to make you feel better about yourself both physically and mentally. It is also some one on one bonding time with Jacob.  maybe Mike can go as a guest with you sometime... Paulette

Hey Monica, $30 a month, spent on you and your son, is nothing. You don't smoke, or drink, or any other expensive habits, so don't feel guilty about it.  An example of how I handled something last week. DH bought a GPS and a garden tiller this past month, to the tune of about $700. He carged them on the credit card that we just recently paid off. While in Tn. last week, I found a Birkenstock shoe store. I bought, with cash, a pair of them to the tune of $170. He complained about it for a couple of hours. I finally reminded him of the toys he bought himself this past month. Instant quiet.  When you do tell Mike, remind him its for you, and you deserve it! Hugs

The thing with Mike is that if it's not HIM making the money decisions it's not right.  I will tell him and I am hoping that he will be happy for Jacob and me. He knows that I am struggling with a lot of things in my life right now and this will help me I think.

Now, where in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge did you find a Birkenstock store?  LOL   We have a time share in Gatlinburg on Old Airport Rd and we go there all the time!  lol

Monica, congrats on the new sizes I just got into a size 18 too don't it feel oh so good, I want to join a gym too but the one here is $54.00 a month and $125.00 to just start.  I am going to join in the fall. It is good that Jacob is going with you he will learn the exercise is fun and get used to it and maybe take it with him into Adulthood. Keep up the good work Monica you are doing a great job.

Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!

The total for me to join and sign up yesterday at the health club was only $54 that was the $31 plus sign up fees. She cut some in 1/2 and waived the other ones for me.  I have no idea why.  though I did mention that I had gastric bypass and was in need of the weight machines and what not.  lol   I also asked her if there were other "fat" people who came there.  She laughed and said that I would feel comfortable and if anyone made me feel bad, then I should talk to them.  lol

Monica you will enjoy cardnial fittness, there is one in Peoria and I was a member for awhile. Yhen the fuel price started going up amd I dropped it. The drive for me was about 17 mile there. I never did feel out of place and I joine before I had surgery then I was 268..I played around with the weight machines but walked on the tredmill for 45 min daily. I tried the eliptical machine but my feet wanted to go one way and the brain went the other so I never masterd that one. As far as gyms go since a work out is all we need its good for the value. You just tell DH that your son gets support and this is something he wants and needs and he is paying for it. I know about money being tight but sometimes the kids need things that we don't even think about and MOM time and  a good work out together will be great!!! After all a good strong support person is a must and kids are the best!!!!!!! Yahoo on the 18's, what an amazing feeling!!! And congrats on joining the gym. I don't think it was wrong of you at all, that's a good price. You have to do what you have to do to make yourself feel good. What's the point of having the surgery if you are not going to use all the tools available to make it a success. Plus you are spending time with your son, and he gets all the benefits of working out. I see it as a win win situation

Good for you! The capri's are a bonus and so is the gym! You have a right to do what is helpful and healthful to you! It sounds like Mike has a few things to learn about being a husband. I've been using the book "Why Marriages Succeed or Fail" by John Gottman recently with my patients. Gottman can tell with a 95% accuracy which marriages will end in divorce after about a ten minute conversation. If there is contempt or personal putdown he says the marriage will end in 2-6 years. I wish I'd known that years ago. I could have saved some years!

Thank you Connie.  That sounds like a good book, is it in layman's terms for people like me?  or is it more for educators?
Mike and I will be married for 7 years on July 13th and I am really trying to make this marriage work, it's not easy by far but I really don't want to be divorced twice yanno?

It is in laymen's terms--very easy to understand and a book I often give to couples I work with.
