I was just wondering the time frame it takes.  I have done the bod pod and yes, I am over weight  it has been confirmed! My lean mass is 137lb.  All the rest is just extra and to think at one time I thought I needed to loose weight at 145lb.  Oh how we get distorted body images when we are young! I will be happy if I can get to 199.5lb now  So today I got together all my information and copies of x rays from my pain doc and took it all to my family doctor.  After I get his letter then I can go to an informational seminar with my hubby.  The info said that I will get a card to be stamped each time I go to a support meeting.  Anyone know how many meetings this is?  Also I was wondering how the psyc visit is.  Do you fill out questions or just discuss? One more, how long of time frame from start to finnish with this group of doctors.  I have seen posted some people take six months or more.  I am sure it also depends on your insurance company, mine is OSF Healthplans. Just wondering, I know not to rush.  I have been debating this all for two years, so obviously I am not rushing!!!  Just curious.  Lisa

Welcome Lisa!  Your right in the assumption every insurance company has it's own criteria that you must meet. I have BCBS of Il ppo and had to do  a 6 month supervised diet before I could be approved for surgery. The time went fairly quick. Once I was done my approval came pretty quick.  Good luck with your journey!

Hi there.  I'm in IL also and have BCBS.  I went through the whole six month dietician visits.  After you meet your requirements it can take up to 30 days for them to approve.  It all depends on your insurance coverage.  No matterr what...it never seems to go fast enough.  I will tell you though, after just 3 weeks, I can say it's the best thing I've ever done.

I think what takes while is to get into the seminar. I am scheduled and I don't go until July and I called 2 weeks ago. Have you done your 6 months with your dr checking your weight? I think they have 1 meeting a month but there are different locations what you can go to. Which type of surgery are you looking into? They only do 3 at that surgical center. I am about 95% sure that I will be going over to Methodist for a Vertical Sleeve Gastertomy instead of getting the RNY that I had originally planned on getting. I think the stand wait after you have the seminar is 6 months. They seem to be very busy people there. Good Luck! Annie

please keep in mind that I had my surgery in 2003.....I inquired about the education support group in January.  I was told that the soonest they had an opening for me to go was April.   My consultation was scheduled for May.  My surgery was scheduled for september 12.....then cancelled for unknown reasons and rescheduled for september 26.
