what do you do for a living?

I was just wondering .  it may have been discussed before i came aboard but i always wonder when people write something about their jobs.  is it easy to sit down for a meal at your job?  I am trying to figure out if i will give myself a lunch hour, per se.    I am a speech language pathologist and i do home care with babies from birth-age three.  it was always so easy to just grab something in between house (and expensive and unhealthy) so now i am back to work. i am trying to decide and think that i may just give myself say the noon hour to go home and eat.  i do therapy all around my town and the next so it would be feasible.   so, what do you do?  and how does your job work with eating "the bariatric way?" inquiring minds want to know.

I am a nurse in the PICU and lately we have been slow so food hasn't been a huge problem but when I am busy it is. The thing I work on most is getting in the water and making sure its been 30 min before and after food. I have a water bottle that has 32 oz in it and I have had problems with plain water and drinking it so I have been putting one of the crystal light packages in it. There is usually food at work I can have but I keep a protein bar in my lunch bag. I bought a bag cuz I didn't have one and I just keep something healthy in it in case I have to just grab something quick. I also have been eating breakfast at home before I go so I really only have to worry about one meal at work. Anyway thats what I do.....

Hi Karey. I am a nurse too. I've worked in rehab, general medical surgical and maternal child. Later on in my career, I was an Infection Control Nurse, nurse educator for OB, a Director of Quality and most recently a Director of the Medical Staff Office. You could say that I am in administration in the hospital. My job works well for eating the bariatric way. I generally eat my breakfast and lunch in my office and have access to water. Lucy

Hi Karey! I am an administrator for a small, family owned company.  A year or so ago, we purchased our own building and one of the requirements was a full kitchen.  We have a full size fridge, double sink, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker and a range with an oven.  We also have a ton of kitchen cabinets.  I keep a drawer in the fridge stocked with things I can eat and I have taken over one of the cabinets.  I have a "Magic Bullet" here also. So, long sotry short......I have all the comforts of home at work and have no problem keeping to the plan. If you can get home, that is a great idea.  You deserve a break just for yourself in the middle of the day.

I generally bring soups or chicken salads, something quick, but will tak me my whole luch to eat.  I also have a er bag, with string cheese, power bars, protein drinks, crackers and peanut butter that I can make a lunch wih if I can't get to the lunch room or I am on the road.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Course Director. As a counselor I see patients on an hourly basis--adults only--all issues, couples, etc. I have an addiction background and worked in treatment centers. As a course director I am in charge of one of the five courses the med students take in their second year. It covers mental health, ethics, culture, talking and listening to patients, communication skills, and epidemiology. I am responsible for planning the schedule, getting the instructors, putting the tests together and attending the lectures.

We do have a microwave and a fridge here and a cafeteria. The latter can be a problem because they have a lot of junk that goes down easily if not wisely. You would think a med school would only serve nutritious food. Not here! So I do have time to eat lunch slowly and wisely, but I also have access to junk on a slow day or on a day that I am just at my desk and don't have to answer to a schedule.

I am a web developer for a large insurance company.  I build websites for the company and web-based training.  I haven't had the surgery yet, but I am trying to lose 5% of my body weight to get approval for the surgery.  I bring healthy things for lunch and I usually sit at my desk and eat.  I'm still having a hard time watching other people eat things that I really want.

Hi, I'm a police dispatcher on the overnight shift.  Our lunches get cancelled quite frequently due to manpower shortages, so it's kind of difficult to keep to a eating plan.  I do try to bring lunch, but occasionally head out (in the middle of the night, yes...true!) to meet my officers for lunch.  I am the Soup Princess, since that seems to be the best option in most of the restaurants open at that time of night.
