Good Morning Paul and the rest of Illinois,

Today we are BUSY!   I have Cassies dance recital this weekend and am getting the house ready for the company after... we are having a small mothers day bbq sat night b/c the family is all going to be here anyway.   I did something for myself yesterday - I went and signed myself up at the health club that opened up down the street.   Tim was a tad upset with me as I get a free membership at  Edward where I work.  But my good friend could not afford the Edward health club so I signed up where she could afford so we could go together.  I did this b/c even though it is free I have not gone.   I did in the begining, but stopped going b/c I always went alone.   Now I (and she) have someone that we are accountable to, and will kick each others butts to actually go.  I am actually going at 4 today (while cass is at gymnastics)  I am actually excited about it.   So go me.... lol we will see how I feel in a few weeks......

Ok I am putting some pepper steak in the crockpot and I am off.  Paul keep sipping and walking.  It gets better.  I was miserable in the begining    -  then the gas kicked in and then bandster hell..... I was so excited about my first fill.   Now I am over a year out and have had 5 of them!  In a few weeks you will be feeling fit and wonderful.  If you have any questions I have  a year under my belt.    Monica I am so glad you are feeling better.

Have a good day everyone,

Gina

Hello Illinois! I haven't been on much, but I've been reading. I had my 6 month check up on Monday. Everything went well except for the meeting with the NUT. She thinks I am eating too much protein and she doesn't want me writing down what I eat. She wants me to wait 1.5-2 hours after each meal to drink anything. I can see the point but I've never heard that long a time from others. She was not at all supportive of my weight loss which I think is nuts. I think we got off on the wrong foot from the beginning because I said I was the type of person who felt hungry all the time and she didn't think the lap band would work for me because of that. I told her I wouldn't consider any other surgery. She wants me back in 2 months and my thought is "no way, baby".

Anyway the rest of my life is fine. I loved the weather yesterday. I'm glad most all of us are going in a positive direction right now and health is improving. I wish the support group was sooner. I miss seeing you all.

Hi Connie, I'm not 6 months out but from the beginning we were told we can drink before meals and then after meals must wait 1.5 hours before drinking. I think your weightloss is fantastic...75# is nothing to sneeze at. We were told 1-2# a week is good, and you have done that plus more....she's a nutritionist not your doctor. If you and your doctor are satisfied with your loss don't let her be the bee in your bonnet. You are doing good!

Hi Connie: I finally found your post! That Diane......I have got to agree with you, she is something else.  I do not think it is possible for us to eat TOO MUCH protein.  Even a lap-bander without malabsorption still needs mostly protein due to the limited amount that you can eat. I think that she may be a decent nutritionist for "normal" people without WLS, but I do not think she understands anything about post-ops.  Add to that the conflicting advise I always get from her and she winds up being no help at all. I don't know exactly how to get around her though.  The "G's" (doctors and NP) seem to think that she knows everything and will not listen to any negative feedback about her. As long as Dr. Gould is happy, that is what counts.  75 lbs. in 6 months is awesome, especially with a band.  You are doing really well!

Hi Connie ...that nut  Peanuts of a nutriionist..is crazy..you are doing so well my dear..and your surgeon is the one to listen too...how dare she think she has the answers.  I agree she should only be having patients who haven't had WLS. I wish I was doing as well as you..PM with some suggestions..I need them. Blessings to you my dear friend.

Connie,

I have two words for Ms.Nut......screw that!!!  You are such a great example to all of  us that has had the band!  I've never heard anyone say to NOT write down what you eat.  Doesn't that keep you on track??  I can't wait till the next support group either.  I missed the last one because of Maddie's audition.  You have set the bar high!  Keep up the great work and you look awesome!!!!!

Thanks. I enjoy keeping track. It's always been fun for me. She doesn't want us to do anything that seems like dieting. Well I know where that got me! Here!

Probably all of you are doing Mother's Day this weekend, but neither Kay nor I are and if anyone is around with nothing to do, we could get together!

Dear Marilyn: Here is a copy of what I replied to Monica on another thread: My doctor recommends Benefiber & Colace, the Metemucil does something that is not desirable.

I have the same problem.  I still take the generic Colace (stool softener--NO laxitive) but not the Benefiber much any more.  The Benefiber is tasteless and you can just mix it into Crystal LIght or something like that.  DO NOT mix it into a protein shake as it binds to the protein and carries it away, out of your body before it is absorbed.

Benefiber 2-3 times a day with a couple of stool softeners should get it going.

If not, I hear that the Miralax works wonders, although it is pricier.

I now take Magnesium Oxide capsules, 400 mg, 2-3 per day and am more regular that I was pre-op.  I take them during the day with my Calcium Citrate and vitamin D (I'm low on D).  I then take the stool softeners at night, before bed.  I get the Magnesium Oxide from Vitacost.com.  I have not found it in the store, that is why I suggest the Benefiber and stool softeners first.

Maybe this will help?

Paul, WOOHOO to you on the numbers and getting more fluids down. I am really, really busy with work and home things right now. I go with my sister and her family to see her son graduate from the police traing institute in Urbana. Have a few things to do her shortly and need to cut this short.  Also wanted to toot my own horn and say HAPPY SURGIVERSARY to ME five years ago today (actually the same exact day of the week Dr Rosen did my RNY and I have kept the weight off!!!!!
