Finally got a date

Hi everyone. I received my date last night, its official they say, May 20th!! Im so excited, and scared at the same time. I think Im scared of that stupid drain the most, isnt that crazy,lol. Is it really that bad? Does it hurt coming out? And how long did you have to have it in?

YEAH!!!  i know exactly what you mean.. when I got my surgery date, I was like "Whoa!  Aleady?!" LOL, even though I'd been waiting YEARS to get this done!!   I had my surgery April 15, 2008 was in the hospital until April 18th and got my drain out April 23rd... the drain just is uncomfortable, it's not really painful, it's just really uncomfortable.  When I got it taken out, the nurse was just looking me over and looking over the sight, then the next thing I know, it was out... it felt really odd coming out, but no pain... it can't really describe it... my drain down my nose was more painful/uncomfortable then the drain in my side.  As soon as the drain was out of my side I felt 200% better... and it felt SO much better taking my showers WITHOUT the drain! But don't worry about the drain.. it really sounds much worse then what it is... I got grossed out having to empty it to be honest, and most people thought that was weird of me.

Congratulations on your date!  I was sooo worried about all those same things too.  My drain came out 4 or 5 days after my surgery......it didn't hurt at all coming out....but it is a funny kind of feeling, but no pain.   You'll do just fine! Pam

    Congrats on getting your date ! That is really just right around the corner ! Did you do your pre-op stuff before you got your date or did they give you the date and then tell you what pre-op stuff you needed to have done ?  

I actually had to get all my pre op stuff done first, then I had to get my approval letter, then I got a date. I am so excited. It actually happened really fast.  So have you had or thinking about surgery?

Everything was submitted to insurance for approval around 4/17. I think that when I get approved, I will have to get cardio and pulmo clearance before I get a date scheduled. Very best of luck to you !!! Your new life is literally just days away !!!    

Congratulations!  The 20th will be here before you know it..  Wow, that is right around the corner.  Don't get all worked up over the drain.  It's not big deal.   Christina
