I have been thinking of the lap band for the last two years.  I see many people are the same way, taking years to make the decision.   I just can not find enough information about lupus and the lap band.  I have connected with one person on a lupus board and she is doing great.  I have mild lupus, joint pain, fatigue and some sun sensitivity, no organs effected.  Some sites say the lap band is not recomended for lupus but they never say why.  Does anyone know why? Is it the silicone in the inflatable portion maybe?   Has anyone with lupus had it inserted at St Francis Hospital in Peoria, Illinois? I have osf healthplans insurance so this would be the hospital of choice for me.  Thanks, weese

i hope you find some answers!  i believe that it has to do with the body rejecting the band, but i am not clear on all of it.  i have a morphea, which is a type of scleroderma so i have been researching it a bunch.  my doctor knows and is still going ahead with surgery.  from what i am reading, it is the systemic scleroderma/lupus that are contraindicated. good luck!
