Question about eating

I know every doctor is different on post-op eating. I am curious on what everyone is able to eat at 4 weeks post-op (which is what I will be tomorrow) Right now I am able to eat 1.5 ounces of protein 3 times a day. I have to admit I am really tired of eating just protein. I would love to have a carrot or some beans or an apple....something other than chicken, turkey etc.

Hi Kim, I was eatting alot of refried beans, cottage cheese with canned fruit mashed good, scrambled eggs, apple sauce  cream soups, but most of the time I lived on the refried beans, good luck with you journey,

Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!

Hi Kim, Welcome to the Illinois board. Please come in anytime and join us .  By 4 weeks, you should be able to eat anything, just small amounts. And keep the bites tiny. Whatever you decide to eat, just introduce it to your pouch one thing at a time, and see if it will acept it.  Personally, I can't eat beef, but I can hamburger. I am not good with to many fruits, but I can eat apples. Now, I did have lapband, not GB, but the rules are basically the same.

Hi Kim - My surgeon had me (gastric bypass) and my husband (lap band) both on soft foods at 4 weeks out.  No solids at all.  As you said, every doctor is different so I would suggest you get your info from your nutritionist or surgeon. Congrats on your surgery. Christina

Hi Kim, Welcome ....you and I have the same doctor. He seems to be more strict about the only protein. Unfortunetly for us vegetables are not allowed til week 9. Are you cooking your protein with marinades or sauces? Dawn is posting a recipe of the day. Maybe you'll get some ideas from her posts. Good luck!

I just find it interesting how different each doctor is. I won't be able to add vegetables until 2 months post-op and then I get fruits at 3 months post-op. I am marinading my meats which helps a lot. I am just having one of those days...going back in forth wondering if I did the right thing. I'm just missing having a variety of food. And I have PMS which probably accounts for my mood swings..lol

Well, I have the same doc as Christina and Calvin and at 4 weeks out we could have soft foods. If memory serves me correctly we had soft foods for 4 weeks and then we progressed to all foods as tolerated. We did not go by ounces but by teaspoons and then to progress to tablespoons.  Try - egg or tuna or ham or chicken salads. String, chunk or cottage cheese. Scrambled egg or an omelet. Soft, soft cooked meats as allowed. Sorry as I am drawing a blank for foods. Christine

Hi Kim: Here are some purredd and soft food ideas that I collected for when I was newly out of surgery:

Ricotta mixed with a little marinara and microwaved about 30 seconds  (Tastes just like a ravioli without the pasta) Ricotta mixed with sugar-free jam or jelly or even Davinci syrup if you want something sweet

Heat up string cheese til it is flat, put a little dab of spaghetti sauce on it, and put cottage cheese on top. Like lasagna - without the meat and noodles.. It was a nice treat, and high in protein. I also did a lot of yogurt, and protein mix-ins are a great idea, just be choosy.  Hummus Sugar free jams mixed in with cottage or ricotta cheese too.

Cottage cheese with Splenda and cinnamon VARIATION on the vanilla custard: Cut the regular milk to 3/4 c. and add 1/4 c. of Davinci SF Hazelnut syrup. Very yummy. I would cut the Splenda slightly to do this again. You could use any of the sf syrup flavors.

Pumpkin Pie Ricotta 1/4 c canned pumpkin 1/4 c ricotta cheese 2 tbsp vanilla protein 2 pkgs splenda 1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice Mix all together until smooth and dig in! Yummy!

Sugar Free Pudding with a spoonful of Protein Powder blended in. mozzarella sticks Cream Cheese Spread 8 ounces low fat cream cheese 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce garlic, chopped, or garlic powder to taste 3 or 4 finely chopped green onions Finely chopped water chestnuts (amount is up to you!) (leave out for early soft) 1/2 teaspoon Season-All salt Mix thoroughly, refrigerate for a couple of hours to allow flavors to marry. Then, spread on deli meat and roll up.

Cheesecake popsicles 1 pkg cream cheese lg box sf jello disolved in 2 c boiling water mix well and pour in to popsickle molds or ice cube trays!

Tell someone that you love them!
