HI Marilyn and IL Board members, I'm on break at work right now....Sorry you are having trouble sleeping...I hope things work out for you, I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I named my band, too.......Rufus....no idea why, but the name seems to work for me.  You know when you drink and then a little while later a LOUD gurgling noise from the liquid going past the band?  Well....I just pat my stomach and say, "quiet down Rufus"....I know, I'm silly. Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Well good morning to some and good to some too.  I am in a really crabby mood, I hope that it goes away but oh well we all have days. I have tons on my plate today meeting the personal trainer, the vet to get horses spring shots, and then maybe I will get to go to bed which is not going to make me in any better of a mood.  I hope that you have a good time on your trip Christine. All lap-banders:

I have a question for you guys.  With your band, how much do you eat and do you eat anything now but less of a portion?  I have been getting everything stuck in it!   I  am going for a fill in 2 weeks.  Had my appt yesterday and Dr. Wallace was very happy e/ everything.  I've lost 11 pounds.  This time last week  the office said I could eat softend food like cottage cheese ect.... today I'm 2 weeks post -op.  What do you think I can eat now?  Is there a differance between getting things stuck and still being hingery?  Cause even though I'm getting things stuck, I'm still hungery after I eat a 1/4-1/2 cup of food.  Sorry for all the questions.

Hi Kim, My band has pretty good restriction, so if I eat too quickly I definitely experience the downside of the lapband (sliming and pb-ing)...It took me a long time to figure out the difference between being hungry and being thirsty, too.  For me, I seem to go into an almost "panic mode" if I think I'm hungry..it's like "OMG! get food quick!"....Plus, my schedule at work is such that there is no time to take things slow when eating. Make sure you are following your surgeon's instructions on eating/drinking.   Wait that time (some docs say 30mins, some an hour) after eating before you drink anything so you aren't washing the food through the band. When you say you are getting things stuck, does that mean you are still allowing them to pass through the band, or are you bringing them up (sorry, eek!). I still get stuff stuck.....one day I can eat scrambled eggs, the next time I try they get stuck. I still have to experiment with different foods.  I know some people have problems with eating meats....my worst problem is with anything bread-like...whi*****ludes tortillas.  As far as how much I can eat?  I'd say no more than a cup of food.....and I try to imagine the size of my stomach now while I'm eating.  It makes me pay attention to portion sizes. Sorry for being all over the place in answering you.....I just woke up and haven't had nearly enough sleep today.  My brain is still in work mode and skipping around to a million different topics.   It sounds like you are doing well at this early point, too!!  Keep up the good work. Paula

Paula,

To this day, nothing has come up!  Thank god!  I just feel pain as I eat certain foods or take to big of a bit.  Tonight I ate a smartones ww meal and felt full after eating it.  Is that to much food to be eating?  I didn't get anything stuck while eating it.  Before surgery I would have eaten that meal and still be hungery and snacked all night long after eating that.  The good thing is that once I eat a meal, I don't snack or even have the desire to anymore.  I hear you about the drinking thing.  I don't drink anyrthing 30 min before I eat or 30 min after I eat.  Not to be stupid, but what will happen if you do drink while eating?  Will it hurt the band?  Thanks for ansewering my questions!  My husbad is a cop that works midnights.  He is the sarge on his shift and he has been on midnights for 5 years.  I'm suprised we are not divorced yet!  Every sarge that goes to midnights on his dept. always end up divorced!  O-well...we will bet those odds!  As I tell my husband every night...BE SAFE!!!!!

Thanks again,

Kim

Hi Kim, Not sure about that SmartOnes meal being a good choice or not. For me, I try to stay away from anything too salty..and usually the frozen dinners have a huge amount of sodium...but of course, you gotta read that label. (seems like so much work involved with food choices when we used to just scarf down anything, ya know?--but it is soooo worth it!!) If I try to cheat on the not drinking thing, a couple of things happen (to me)....I think the water actually pushes the food down to the band and kinda makes it like a plug...so (for me) it creates like a stuck drain....and air bubble....ugh!! pain pain pain (between the shoulder blades).....and it can also cause me to start sliming (sorry to gross you out)..and that is absolutely no fun..especially if I'm around other people. My b/f tells me I get this look on my face.....like a fish face...bugg-eyed...when food gets stuck.  We've kind of perfected this non-verbal communication where he will give me the "slow down" look if I'm eating too fast........it helps to have a coach!! LOL. Any questions, just PM me. And definitely keep up the good work with hubby....it's tough working the midnight shift, and law enforcement can be pretty stressful.....it's always important to have a good support system at home..and faith..that is sooo important, church is a great foundation... I have many police friends with very solid marriages and the common denominator is their faith. (oh yes, and make sure that every night when he leaves, you give him that "be safe"...I know it's important to say it, and VERY important to hear it, too) Keep up the good work.....it sounds like you are doing well.....and if you need anything, drop me a message!
