Well, there are a lot of Lap Band docs in the Chicago area. I would highly recommend my doctor, Dr Jeffrey Rosen of LifeWeigh Bariatrics - here is his link http://www.lifeweighbariatrics.com/ Many of the members of this board are his patients and some have had the band. When you start looking for a surgeon find one that has a holistic approach to the pre op and PO patient with a good physician, dietician, support groups, exercise expert, good medical support staff, a place with good insurance knowledge and psychological support. Here is the link to the names of the doctors that are listed on the IL board. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/IL/a,doclisting/type,46/ You can go through the list and see if any of them are close to you and also see the comments from their patients. Some do many different types of surgery but there are many that also do the band, you will have to sift through the list.  There are a ton of links on the left hand side of this page that can give you answers to many of the questions you might have. I have the band and am down 97 pounds exactly!!!  It took me 11 months to get here, but I will break 100 pounds before the 1 year anniversary of my first adjustment.  As for a surgeon, it all depends on where you live.  There are lap band surgeons all over the Chicagoland area.  I would say start there as a way to narrow down your search. I have no regrets in getting the band (I regret taking 6 months to get my first adjustment though, but that is all my fault).  I would say that you need to ask yourself several questions about deciding about the band vs the bypass.  They are all going to be personal questions, and I would also recommend going to information sessions for both kinds of surgery and ask about the other there.  So if you go to a bypass ask about the differences between that and the band, the do the same at a band session.

i have no regrets about my choice. I was considering bypass as my mother and aunt both had it done. My biggest concern was the fact that with bypass you dont absorb nutrients the way you should. I am down 43 pounds since my surgery in Dec and i couldnt be happier. This is a lifestyle adjustment in both types of sugery...its all in what YOU feel is the best option for you. Your surgeon will help you with that decision too.

I highly recommend Dr Jeffery Rosen in Downers Grove. He is very compassionate, he has a great staff as well. I have termendous respect for Dr. R his staff and wife.  His pre op and po op care are great, he has even called me at home to see how I was doing if I called about a question when I just did not feel well. So thats my opinion!!!!!

I am new to the website and have not figured out the ins and outs but I had the lap band surgery 12-31-07 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Dr. Alexander Nagle is my surgeon.  I had some complications (not from the lap band) so to date I am about -25 pounds.  The surgery itself was the easiest I had ever been through.

I'm getting RNY, but my Dr. is a procter for the Lap Band company - he basically trains dr's on the procedure.  Dr. Frederick Tesienga.  He does all the bariatric surgeries for the Resurrection Health Care System out of West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park. Good Luck! Denise
