Well, it is really important that they have your sugar under control before you go in for surgery because it is dangerous for your kidneys. If your kidneys start to shut down then you might have to go on dialysis while in the hospital. The kidneys process the waste from your blood stream. It is not uncommon for a surgeon to want you to see another specialist for the A1C and for the 3 month wait. That test is a cummulative study of your blood sugars over a 3 month time frame. They cannot get an accurate test if they do it in say 1 or 2 months. The stress echo is not an uncommon test for a person that might be SMO or a person that the doctor does not think could handle the walking stress test. My husband had to have one because he was SMO before his WLS. He drove himself to and from the test.  Please try not to be sad as this is a really good thing that the doctor is ordering these tests and the extra wait. S/he has your safety in their concern and they want to make sure that you are as healthy as can be before they put you under.  Christine

So sorry for the delay.  Christine is right about needing your sugars under control.  Besides what she told you about the kidneys, diabetics have a harder time healing.  If your sugars are not under control before surgery it can put you at greater risk to complications due to poorer healing than if they were under control.  Although you are disappointed, it is a good thing.  Get every thing under control so you will be at less risk for complications.  Shelley
