Tomorrow I go for a 1:00 pulminary function test and then I have to check in at 8:30 for my sleep study.  Can anyone tell me what these tests are like?  A few days ago I had a sinus infection and now it has traveled to my chest.  I cough every once in awhile, but it's nothing I leel will hamper my tests.  Inlaws blew me off, so Ryan took the night off of work on Thursday to keep Maddie so I can go for this testing.  I tought that was real nice of him to do that!!!  After my 1:00 appt, I will just bum around and go shopping so I don't have to travel all the way back home.  Hopefully after this, I can get a date!!!  What a long drawn out process this is!!!!  Better be safe than sorry though.  Later tater!!!!

Just bring some really comfy pj's and your own pillow.  If you are stuffy ask the doctor for an RX and if you are afraid you won't be able to sleep tell him and he'll give you a sleeping pill to take. It's just not a comfortable night.  You will be wired for sound.  Electrodes on your chest, legs, on your head, etc. But it will go by fast. Just one tip, tell them the doctor needs the results "stat" as they are waiting to schedule surgery.  Otherwise it take like 2 weeks just to get results. Good luck!
Regards and hugs,

I didn't have to do the sleep study test, the one they made me do I just did at home for one night.  (wore an oximeter).
The pulmonary testing is a lot of inhaling and exhaling forcefully and things like that.  I got light headed at one point.  lol
Kim, you will do fine and yes you are right, that was nice of Ryan to switch days so he could be there with Maddie.

Let us know how it goes please!!  I'll be thinking of you!

Kim,

I've done two sleep studies there.  The first one I hardly slept at all.  The second one, I took 1 tylenol pm and slept great.  It also helped for the second study, my nurse taped down the chords to my pj's this way I didn't constantly pull them off in my sleep. Here is a run down of your night...

sign in and then fill out paperwork

they weigh you on your way to your room where you have a private bathroom to change.  They go over your paperwork and then hook you up.  You will have sticky electrodes everywhere.  In your head, neck, chest, legs.  I think its something like 16 all together and chords coming from each one.  Just when you get to sleep they come in and say your finished time to go home (at least it feels that way).  They do want you to try to mimic your sleep pattern the way it is at home.  I think its just too uncomfortable with all those wires, thats why I took the tylenol pm, but only one, just enough to relax me.

As for the lung function test.  I was sick when I took it and did fine.  If I coughed during the test they just did that part again.  They are really nice and patient. Best of luck, you'll do fine, ~Michelle

My sleep study was the best night sleep I'd had in months.  No kids waking up in the middle of the night, no barking dogs, no emails coming in on the blackberry.... Can I go back???? Good luck! Denise
