OT: My brother, Jim - updated 022908 0525 am
I received a call from Jim's daughter, Kathy last night. Things aren't going well with the remaining lung. They have put him into a drug induced coma, he is on a vent so he can heal and they are going to put in a feeding tube into his stomach. His lung is only the size of your fist when it should be much larger. He is not getting the rest that he needs because of the amount of visitors. Jim is the consumate host; he loves people and he would always acknowledge your being there. This is interferring with his breathing, rest and healing.
Now, the lung issue they think is from the asbestos and emphysema and is throwing curve balls with the healing, needing the brocoscopies, filling back up with fluid etc. Hence the drug induced coma. In all of this there is a bright light of the fact that the biopsy came back negative for cancer.
In all the doctors pow wow many times during the day regarding Jim. They are going this route for treatment and then will figure out what to do next if all this doesn't work. My sister is coming up from IN on Saturday morning so she can be here and visit with him and help here with her being so far away. She will be staying with me while she is here.
Thank you for your prayers, good words and well wishes. They do not fall on deaf ears with God nor me. I let them fall over me like a blanket of warmth and they are very comforting.

0525am 022908 Last night I went up to the hospital and saw him. He is almost totally sedated. He will move his head et****asionally and cough slightly. They had to do 3 brocoscopies on Wed. and it took about 10 people to hold him down. There is a slight improvement now after the sedation seen via an xray and bloodwork. They say he can hear and I believe that to be true because I heard people around me when I was totally out of it in ICU many years ago. My SIL said I looked far worse then Jim does now, that is good. I told him that mom and dad said for him to stay on earth longer they did not want him with them. Held his hand, felt his forehead because he prior to that had a fever which is gone now etc. I will go at lunch because I want to be able to see what he looks like before I take Mary in tomorrow afternoon.
