Did You Move To Lose Today? How do you know if you are training to hard?

Hey Everyone,

What a day....it appears our friends in FL are getting hit  hard with storms. Stay safe ok

I made it to the gym last night for my boxing class, but by the time we were done it was a blizzard.  I just made it home  I wanted to go to the gym this am but didn't make it.  Once the sun came out I ran up to the local store and bought a set of adjustable free weights.  Enough of this not being able to work out due to weather  So, I should be able to go to my kick boxing class tonight.  Doing a push day here at home. How do you know if you are training to hard?

It can be hard to find that perfect balance.  You may noticed your strength will decrease or you fatigue quickly.  Also, you may experience mood swings.  So if you are burning a lot of energy in your workouts but are lethargic the rest of the day, your over doing it.

When you are burning a lot of energy during your workouts, your muscles are sore and you genuinely have a lot of energy during the rest of the day, this tells you...you are on the right track.  To prevent over training, try and enjoy and be disciplined with your rest periods.  Keep in mind the rest time doesn't have to mean no movement, just change it up a bit to maintain  your calorie expenditure.  Keep the heart active, but more importantly give yourself the chance to be at your optimal level. - article from Oxygen mag by Art McDonald.
So my friends, Did You Move To Lose and or Maintain Today?  No matter what the weather we can do it.  May swear a few bad words here and there, (put the profanity filter on) but we can do it

Stay Sexy, Strong and Sassy!!!

Take care,
Kathy

Hey you, I so get the bad road thang Make sure when you are doing cardio and strength training the same session, you do strength first and then cardio.  It's ok to do maybe 5 mins for warm up but then hit the weights and then do cardio after You are doing an awesome job, keep it going girl

strength vs cardio first is the never ending contoversy.  one theory is - if you are a serious body builder ( and not that many of us are) then strength first as the cardio might  tire you and make you unable to lift the very heavy loads needed for big muscle hypertrophy.  that said several of the trainrs at my club who are serious training body builders do cardio first. doing cardio first will tend to help you build endurance and if you want to burn a lot of fat calories  - Well I often do cardio first for that very reason.  truth is - according the my personal training teacher ( who has at least a masters in exercise science) that for the average person just getting fit  or keeping fit - it really doesnt matter. what really matters is just that you are doing both. ( and hopefully some flexibility training as well)

Good afternoon Kathy! I got up today at 4 and did my strength workout with the resistance bands.  I started a bit slower due to being off a week, but it felt pretty good. Did you get my email? Have a great day and enjoy that class!

Tell someone that you love them!

Hi there Kathy!!!  I did Yoga class in the morning..............and just came in from another class (it's around 9:30pm) called Yamuna body-rolling.   Pretty cool stuff...(if anyone is interested, I have some website links for that class...not too intense stuff for newbies like me) I've been hitting the gym at my b/f's house....and also aquasize class.  I think I will sign up for at least 2 sessions per week of aquasize next semester.  Once a week just isn't enough for me...I love that class!!! hope all is well with you!! Another thought -  I learned in my personal training calsses that when you work out for more than 90 minutes you start burning protien ( ie our muscles) as an energy source.  Not what I would want to do - I want to burn the fat, and keep the muscle.  another  more "psychological" issue. If one is overeating - ie binging, then exercising to make up for it they  may have an eating disorder.  overexercising after overeating can be a  form of bulemia.  the overexercising in that case is a type of purgeing. there are many bulemics who purge by overexercising rather than vomiting and have no clue that they are bulemic - but if one is doing that while having too much focus on weight and bodyy image there is a real problem that needs professional help.   unfortunately the fastest growing group in this category is women in their 40's, not the teenagers we expect it to be.  hugs and than you for posting such great info - and being so encouraging
