EKG Results

I really hate that I worry so much, it's a trait I get from my mom.

Today Donna called me and said that Bessie was out so she was helping out.  My tests all came back great except for my EKG.  Apparently it came back what they call "borderline", she said that it doesn't mean there is anything wrong, but I will have to contact my primary care Dr and they would to, to get his clearance on this.  I tried to call him rigth after but of course they were closed.  They are only open 3 days a week!  It sucks.  I have no idea what will happen now and hopefully he's not going to be a jerk and make me do a ton of stuff.  He's never had a gastric bypass patient.

Anyway, anyone know what it could mean that it's borderline?  I am wondering if it could be because I was dehydrated from fasting for about 16 hours by then....nervous about the Upper GI and such.  We'll see I guess.  I just pray that this won't affect my surgery date.....

Lucy might be able to answer for you because she is a nurse.  Did you possibly move or, cough or talk during the EKG? That can give skewed results. Do not stress over it. Wait for them to fax it over to the PCP or call them next week. chris

Thank Chris.  I don't think I moved, but I do know that I was nervous.  I'm gonna enjoy my weekend and not worry about it til Monday when I can talk to my PCP.

Monica, Do not worry, the same thing happened to me.  They did my EKG after they took my blood, and the tech who did it kept asking me questions during the process.  I had my pre op testing done, just before Christmas, then they called me and I had to move like crazy because I was having surgery on the 28th.  It was tooo close for comfort for me.  I went the day before surgery to my primary and had it done, and sent off to the Kane Center.

Thanks Wendi that really makes me feel better. It just makes me nervous with my mom going through her heart stuff right now, though we know hers is from years and years of high blood pressure, which I have never had.

Monica, don't worry, I know, easier said then done.  I didn't think I moved either during mine, but I did, so that is probably all it is.

Monica, don't stress over this. Mine came back borderline too, and remember. I had a valve replaced and a bypass done in April. Anyhow, I called my Cardiologist, Dr. Sari, and he looked at it, and said not to worry, and he re-clear me for Dr. Guske's assurance. What it was, was my arota is a bit enlarged, so it gave a false reading. Even if it does affect your surgery date, wouldn't you rather have a cleared up heart problem then not make it through the gastric bypass? Hugs

My EKG came back abnormal.... I then had to do a stress test and nuclear test and failed.  Then had to go see a cardiologist and have a heart cathaderization (sp?) which I've been told is the only real way to totally rule out heart disease and it came back just fine, no problems.  So, bottom line, I would not get too worked up over it but it is better to be safe the sorry.  I would rather go thru a "ton" of stuff to get clearance then the alternative. You'll be fine. Christina

Hi Monica. Your borderline EKG could be anything from psychological - anxiety driven to a possible condition. It is best to see your doc and get it evaluated. It probably is nothing but it is wise to make sure before you have the surgery. If nothing else, it will put your mind to ease. Keep us posted! Hugs, Lucy
