Okay it may be more than one....lol

Did you all come home with drains??
How soon after surgery did you start with protien shakes?
How soon after surgery do they want you start vitamins?

Now, mind you this was 4+ years ago for Dave - he went home with a drain and it came out I think at the first apt., he was on liquids in the form of broth, water and they had him buy a protein gelatin product. I cannot remember if he was instructed to have protein shakes. Dave was always on vitamins but I think they start them soon after if not when they get home. They had to be liquid or crushed vitamins for a period of time. He even had to crush his meds for I think a month. Chris

Hi Monica, Dr. Guske at the Kane Center was my surgeon... I did come home with a drain, they remove it most of the time at your 1 week check up... I was able to drink protein shakes as soon as I was home... They had me start the vitamins 1 month before surgery, and I continued afterwards... Hope that helps some... I am excited for you! Jenn

Thank you Jenn.  I was going to go and buy some of the Optisource vitamins at my Walgreens this week, that's probably a good idea then huh?

The vitamins are not that bad either... I also used the High Protein Boost I bought 1 package chocolate and 1 package vanilla... That was enough to last me through my stages...  I used the 1 oz medicine cups they give you in the hospital, the nurse gave me like 20 to take home... That was helpful!  Jenn

Monica, I came home with a drain in, and it was removed at my one week appointment.  As far as protein and vitamins.  I was taking a multivitamin already prior to surgery.  So, I started taking mine the day after I came home from the hospital.  I used Boost High Protein ready to drink, as this was allowed during the liquid phase following surgery.  There are two other ones that are allowed and they are Ensure High Protien or Optisource Drink.  There is a class that you will need to take prior to surgery to discuss the diet and the guidlines.

Thank you Wendi!  I am going to keep my eyes out for those shakes so I know where to get them.  I hate the idea of the drain, only because of my dogs...they are psycho at times and I am so afraid that they are going to unintentionally hurt me. 

You can find the High Protein Boost at Walgreen's and Walmart.  This is where I bought mine.  Just remember, you will only be able to drink little amounts at a time first. I went to the Container Store and bought some of these little bottles in 1, 2, 4, and 8 ozs that what everything became premeasured and easier to transport in a lunch box. 

Thanks Wendi.  We dont have a container store here, but the next time I head up to a Dr's visit near Schaumburg I will go and get some of those containers.  That will be very nice for work.
