Well I had surgery on the 14th I was loosing weight normally and seemed like everyday. Well that was until today. I am following what the doctor says and eating the right foods and now today when weigh seems I gained a pound or two. I am not happy is this normal or should I not be concerned since has only been a little over a week since surgery. I lost from the pre surgery liquids and the last week 20lbs as of right now. I was as low as 22lbs is the normal or should I not be concerned and just see what happens. Please help, I am frustrated because I am doing what I thought was supposed to.

Erin - Congrats on your surgery.  Keep doing everything they told you to do except you need to step away from the scale.  That seems to be the number one thing that gets everyone frustrated and crazy.  If your following your doctors plan you should be just fine. Christina

Hi Chris - I talked to Calvin earlier and he said he was doing good.  He even said he was going to go to the gym when he gets off work which remains to be seen.  That may be pushing it.  I would go w/ him but midnight is too late for this girl and tomorrow is my first day back to work.  I'm really trying to keep an open mind w/ my job.  I've heard there are major changes that effect me.  I should have seen it coming because my boss is an a$$ and loves to stir the pot and make everyone miserable.    Christina

Erin,

I am 3 1/2 weeks post op.  I don't own a scale.  Last week I went to the dr and I had gained a pound.  I thought that I would have lost 10.  In my mind, I knew that it was water weight, I just don't drink enough water, but it was frustrating too.

I only weigh once a week at the drs office.  If I have a bad week, I just take it as a learning experience and try to work at my problem areas (water).

Everyones body is of course different, but I think your gain is the norm.  You said it yourself, your doing everything right.  Just put that scale away and give yourself a pat on the back for everything you've accomplished thus far.

I agree with Christina - put that scale away. I wi**** would be WLS "Law" that you had to give up the scale to the doctor's office and only depend on their scale. What you are going through is normal. Your body is hoarding calories right now because you have so drastically reduced your intake that it does not know what is going on. It thinks it is being starved. Your metabolisim will adjust itself and you will be on the merry weigh (pun intended) down with your weight again. Christine
