Ok before I post the question I want to say please dont judge me or tell me to call my doctor. I basically dont have one. He lives 6 hours away and I cant afford to go see him all the time. Im hoping to go next month but it will all depends. When I contacted him once before I feel like he shined me off. Ok anyways. I am 12 weeks out. I have had NO issues with foods or my surgery other than opened incesion but thats fine now I eat aprox 4 oz a time. Should I be eating more at once? I can sometimes feel like I can eat more but I dont because I dont know if im supose to or not. I know all docs are different but please give me some advice on how much you eat or are supose to eat at  33 months out. I posted this in the main forum but only got people telling me to call my doctor. Thats not what I really need.  Thanks

Hi! I lived near you for years (C'dale). I would think you could eat 1 to 1.5 c. of food at each meal focusing on protein first. My NUT says we should eat some of the colors of the rainbow each day like red-tomatoes, yellow-squash, purple-beets, ect. in addition to the protein. I usually eat a scrambled egg for breakfast with an instant oatmeal packet. Lunch is often 4 oz cottage cheese or yogurt, may be a half banana or half an apple and 2 oz FF refried beans. Dinner is something like a chicken thigh or salmon or tuna and vegetables. I make FF instant pudding for dessert with micellar milk for the protein. Some of these things you might have to order on the internet. I also have some high protein cinnamon pretzels from  kaysnaturals.com which I might add to lunch or dinner depending on the day. I do drink 10 glasses of water and only use a protein drink if I am short on protein. I eat 80 grams of protein a day.

I hope this gives you some ideas. I would suggest you look for a doc in St. Louis. It is so much closer!

Hello Connie yup Im right by carbondale. Do you know where Chittyville in Herrin is? Thats where im at. I think its safe to try and eat a little more now then I will try just a small amount for now. Theres a doctor in Paducah ky closer Ive been thinking of calling on him too. I always eat my protein first now. I dont eat alot and I eat tons of chicken. I buy certain kinds of chicken with protein and cook it on the foreman I do subway alot to with tuna after my workouts. I also eat eggs fro breakfast. Like you I dont do shakes everyday unless I cant get in my protein. I know I dont get it all in but im doind alot better with protein and water too. Thanks for your help. Im off to get my van fixed. Have a great day.

Connie, I really like your NUT's idea of eating from the rainbow. That is a fantastic idea. I am going to mention that to mine at Dr Rosen's office. Actually I need to interject here because I do not think that Sandra should be eating 1 & 1/2c of food because she is a RNY patient. Most doctors will say to keep the food intake at 1/2 c for either a snack or a meal. She might be really hard pressed to get more than that in. Our pouches are only the size of a large egg. My DH and I can hardly get in one scambled egg and we both are 4+ years out. Chris

Yes you are right about the quantity. I didn't notice she was RNY.

Connie, I love your quote about leadership. If I may I would like to copy it so I can place it in my work cube. Christine

Sure. It is a quote from William Danforth, the founder of Ralston-Purina and the American Youth Foundation. It was the camp slogan of the AYF camp Miniwanca where I went as a teenager. The slogan has helped me immensely over the years.

Sandra, Yeah God for you that you have had no issues with food. That is great news, now you can enjoy all the good for you foods and some of the treats within reason. The interesting thing about the main board is that so many people post about having issues with food that others think that EVERYONE should have issues also and they think that they are not normal.  I do not think that you should be eating more food at this time. Just remember to concentrate on eating your protein first, veggies and fruits next and then if you have any room then treat yourself to a teaspoon or two of some type of goody that you enjoy. The instructions that my WLS (doc & NUT) tell the patients is to eat slowly (taking about 15-20 mins to eat), concentrate on when you are full and to stop eating when you are because sometimes that one small bite extra might put you over the edge and make you miserable and sick. If you are getting in more vigerous exercise then you might want to up your protein (a tiny bit only) intake to help feed your muscles. Remember that protein (muscles) needs protein to remain healthy and be fed.  It is normal for a person at about 3 months to eat a little more than they did when they first started with solid food. Do not be frightened by that. You sound like you are doing great, keep up the good work. Christine

My Dr only allows 1/2 cup for meals and snacks too....the little pouch up around the bans is only the size of a small egg.....if I tried to put more then 1/2 cup I would be vomiting...or slimming....
