Primary Care Doctors....

I was just wondering if your PCP's know enough about bariatric patients to take good care of you after surgery when you get sick or whatever?  I know already that mine doesn't.  He has never had one patient that has had it and honestly he's new and I don't want to be his first.  LOL
he's a great Dr but I'm just not thrilled with the care I get there.  anyone have any recomendations for another PCP....I am not sick often and will travel a bit to get to a good one.

I'm having issues with my pcp right now.  My dr got into a new specialty and left the state.  I started seing his replacement.  I like her well enough, but she just isn't encouraging about the surgery.  I spoke to the NP at Bonaventure and she recommended the drs there.  I would go, but I don't want to travel that far for a respiratory infection, etc.  They are located in Schuamburg and they specialize in weight loss patients.  I would think that someone on here has seen them and could give you some feedback on them.  Good luck. ~Michelle

Thank you Michelle.  Yes Schaumburg is a little far, but for good Dr's I would do it.  It's only about 30-45 min for me though.  That's where I see the nut at anyway!  lol

If you see the nut from Bonaventure, as I do, the dr's are upstairs from them.  Anne Reed, the NP from Bonaventure recommended them to me.  If you don't mind the drive then it might be a good fit for you. ~Michelle

Monica, well my internist is not totally informed about WLS, but he was very supportive of me to have surgery. He also asks me questions when I go in for appointments. He has also tried to get some of his MO patients to call Dave or I for support. None of them have called but he has been given blanket permission to contact us. Dave's doc is the same way. Our docs are clear in Schaumburg and Itasca. You really need someone closer to you, especially if you need to go in for a basic cold or other ailments. Chris

Do you have any ideas on how to find one in the area that would be good besides calling them all?  lol  Maybe I should find a few that are within my ins and just suck it up and call them.

What hospital are you close to, Good Sam, Provena or the other one in Aurora? I would try there also. You can contact the hospital and they will have a referral list of doctors that practice at their hospitals. The other option is your ins. co. and that would be where I would go first because you really need someone in your plan or you are going to be "eating" doctor charges because they are not approved for you to go to. I am right by both Provena and Delnor.  I will be doing some checking with insurance first and then finding out if they deal with bariatric patients.

I had a heart to heart with mine before my surgery.  I wanted to know if she had any post-bariatric patients and to make sure she understood what was being required of me. Well I was lucky.  She has 3 other patientient who had surgery before me.  And she has been one of my biggest supporters...she was even the one who suggested I consider having surgery a whole year before I decided I wanted it. So I have no complaints and if anyone in the Northwest burbs needs a new PCP I would highly recommend her.
