Trying to decide which prcedure to use
Hi all!
I am brand new to the forum and have finally made an appointment to do something about my weight problem. I am meeting with Dr Haggerty out of Highland Park, IL on Thursday for my first consult. I am leaning towards having the bypass done, but am freaking out over if insurance is going to cover me, and also if I am strong enough to follow the diet restrictions forever afterwards. I figure this is my last hope, as diets and exercise haven't really worked for me. I know at least after the surgery I won't get to cheat, as my body won't let me. I also know once I start losing weight, I will be able to exercise versus now being out of breath trying to do anything, even tying shoes. Does anyone have any advice as to what to ask during my consult, and also as to how to make it emotionally?
Thanks,
Allison
Hello, Allison and welcome, I had my surgery in oct. 07 and doing good, i too was worried about the diet, but I am staying on track with my food plan, I think for me I am afraid to mess up after going though the surgery and that makes it easy for me. Good luck with your journey and let know know how you first visit with your dr. goes,
Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!

Lisa,
Thanks for the response. I actually have contacted the insurance company, and found out I have to have a documented case of obesity for 5 years and a MBI of 40+. The other criteria I meet. I am currently at 38.3 BMI, and seriously considering wearing ankle weights or something for my weigh in at my consultation just so I make the BMI. I have high BP and cholersterol, so I do have the medical factors behind me, not like I am proud to have them, but I know they will help me out in the long run to get approved. A few months ago, I thought I was having a heart attack. It ended up being costal conghitis, but I got the full cardiac work-up with the stress tests, echo, and ekg's. I even did the Berkley bloodwork, all of which is good documentation.
I'm just very nervous. I am SO really for a new beginning. I even told my children that I want to do this, and at first they were really scared and now they are excited to have a thinner healthy mom to play with them.
