Erin, did you have open or lap? You will have a little more pain with open. My sister had lap RNY and had a fair amount of pain. Now, keep in mind you are less than a week out and still should have pain. Stay on top of your pain meds and do not go overdue on them. It is harder to control the pain when you are past due to take them.  The weight gain is normal. They pump you full of fluids with the IV (1000 CCs an hour in the OR) so hence the weight gain. It will go away I promise you. I gained 30# because my surgery ended up being 4 hours.  It will get better I promise you. Chris

I had it lap. I just still hurt so much and feel like a baby for always taking pain meds. Overnight at the hospital I actually slept and did not need to take any and then when i got up I did. But I feel like I am using the pain meds too much! I only take when needed and every 4 hours like the script says. I hope so on the weight gain. I was so glad when lost what I did and now back to where I started. Ok thanks for all the help and support.  Erin

Hi Erin, Remember you just had major surgery and it will take some time before you start to feel like your old self . But it will get better a little each day and one day you will wake up and there will be no pain at all. Regarding the weight gain, it is really normal.  You will filled up with fluids while in the hospital and your body hasn't released it yet.  I gained 16 pounds by the time I went for m 1 week post-op check up and I was just horrified.  But then it started to come off rapidly. Hang in there and remember you can always call your surgeon or his staff if you have specific quesitons or any problems....that's why they got the big bucks after all..lol
Regards and hugs,

Hi Erin, I a glad you are home and eveything went ok, and Yes the pain does go away, give it about one week, you had it done Lap right on open? As far as sleeping I had about 4 pillow under my head and slept on my back for about a month, (I am a side sleeper) but it does get better, and the weight gain is normal, they have filled you up with IV fluid and that will take time for it to leave you body but it will, Take your meds sip your water and walk as much as you can, if you need someone to take to pm me and I will give you my phone number, take care and get some rest.

Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!

HI Erin and Welcome to the losing side! You are very normal, and YES, the pain will subside, but it will take time.  I slept in the living room on the recliner for over 2 weeks.  I just could not get comfortable in bed.  By the third week, I could sleep in bed, but it was still a bit painful.  Then one day, the pain was gone! Continue to take your meds as prescribed, walk, walk, walk and sip, sip sip.  Try not to overdo.  At about 4 days, my daughter had vacuumed, but left the vacuum out and I saw a spot that whe missed.  I turned it on and vacuumed about a 10 foot square area.  Later, I thought I was going to die!!!!!  I could NOT believe how bad it hurt from that small amount of exertion.  Take good care of yourself for the first couple of weeks.  You will be fine. And yes, the weight gain is from the fluid in the hospital, it will disappear soon.  The walking will help with that too. Good luck and please check back in with us!

Tell someone that you love them!

Awe honey, you sound like me. Just a week ago I asked my mom (post op 3years) will the pain ever go away. I would be up at nite crying because I couldnt sleep. I can now say 1 week later I forgot I had pain. I feel great now. I am pretty much back to normal beside having a battle with getting some food in.  The pain is only temporary so just take your pain meds as prescribed (i know I did!!! I had to) and walk and sip and rest. Hang in there. It gets better. I'll be praying for you.

Ms. Mika is FINALLY A LOSER!
