I'm new to this site and am starting the process to get approval from my ins. (BCBS IL).  The only doctor my HMO will approve is Dr. David Klem from CDH.  However, I can't find any feedback on him and I've looked at various message boards.   Does anyone know of someone who has had him as their surgeon?  Has anyone heard anything about him?  Just trying to do my researach before I have just anyone perform my surgery (I want to have the lap band).  Thanks

Molly, sorry I do not have anything to offer you in the way of a review. I have seen his name in the past and I do know that CDH does have a WLS program but that is about all that I have to offer to you. I will tell you that some doctors do not participate with OH because there is a cost involved with them being on the boards, whether it being from having an add or the link to their name in a list.  If you are in the Winfield/ western 'burbs area you might want to consider Dr Jeffrey Rosen or his associate, Dr. Iwanicky. They are the WLS surgeons for many of us on the IL board. They have a great WLS program that is well rounded pre op and PO. Christine

Hi-Dr. Klem is in the practice my abdominal surgeon is in -as a matter of fact my doc assists him in his bariatric surgeries.  Dr. Klem is wonderful and caring- I have seen him on ocassions when my doc was not on call.  Everyone is his group is top notch and I have been @ CDH enough to know that the care there is 1st rate also.  You will be in good hands-Good Luck-keep coming back-Janet K

Janet & all,  Thanks for all of your feedback.  It's good to hear that you've had a positive experience with Dr. Klem.  I met him last night and I had no red flags.  Now I just need to get my HMO to apporve the surgery.  My PCP did some blood work last week and I had a slightly elevated thyroid level so she said I need to get that down before we submit everything to the insurance.  So... 2 months on meds and then I get re-tested.

Thanks for the feedback.  I clicked on the link and went through the steps.  It wants to charge me $19.95.  Is that the point you got to too or did you get any info without paying?  I guess 20 bucks isn't bad to get a history of him.  I actually went to my first info session last night and he was one of the presenters.  He seemed pretty nice and genuinely interested in everyone there.  I asked lots of questions (others in the room probably wanted me to stop).
