Hi All, Is there anyone out there that has United Health Care Options PPO? Did it cover your surgery, and what were their conditions before it paid for it? I won't have this insurance for another 2-3 weeks, and am trying to get some answers. I already tried calling the insurance company, but without having an ID yet they can't seem to tell me much. (what a bunch of idiots! grrrrrr) I appreciate anything you can tell me. Thanks, cat

I had the lap band done with United Healthcare Options PPO.  I didn't have to do anything different.  But it all depends on how your employer set up with United Heathcare.  I would talk to your HR department and try and get them to help you get some answers, even if it is just the codes needed to be able to talk to someone.

Barry is right.  Check with your human resource deptment and ask them for either a summary plan description (spd) or a list of exlustions. You should be able to find out if weight loss surgery is covered and if so what are the conditions needed (must have co-morbities, bmi over 40, etc). Good luck!
Regards and hugs,

and remember they are going to tell you they dont cover it because all of them do.  Unless there is specific guidlines in your plan that states its not covered..It should be covered...

I have united healthcare and got approved the first time. But the dr. was very certain of all the information that was needed before they sent it in. It does depend on the plan with your company too that not always is it covered. You should be able to ask for a SPD (Summary Plan Description) and that should give you some idea. Keep your chin up.
