Psych Eval and Insurance

I am just wondering if anyone who has BCBS of IL knows if the psych eval is covered or not?  I am hoping that they won't expect full payment on Tuesday.  Mike took his car in to be fixed and it cost us $600 this morning!!  They told me that they will verify benefits with ins, do you think they might call me on Monday to let me know?   Thanks in advance!

Hi Monica, BCBS covered my eval even though they didn't cover my RNY...go figure But again, it depends on your particluar plan not BCBS.  Does your plan have mental health coverage?  Take a look at your policy and it should tell you.  If you don't have an SPD (summary plan description) ask your HR rep for one.  That will give you MORE than you every wanted to know about your health plan.  But it will give you exact info regarding what is covered and to what extent. Thanks Ronna, I just looked in the book we got with the ins and according to that it should be covered as long as the psych is a BCBS member...which he is.   Im sure I could help you practice your HR stuff a lot!!  LOL

Hi Monica. I have BCBS of Illinois - PPO plan. They covered the psych exam but not the consult. Go figure that one! Lucy

Hi Lucy!  what do you mean the consult?  what consult?  I had my initial consult with Dr Rantis way back when and they covered it in full...is there another consult I will have to have??  LOL How are you feeling?  All healed up pretty good?  Let's see some pics when you can sweetie!!

Hi Monica. I am talking about the psych consult with Dr. Crane. They paid for my psych test but not his consult. That was strange. I would have thought it would be the opposite. Nothing to do with the WL surgeon. I am doing OK and will be seeing Dr. Guske on Thursday to get some antidepressant medication. I am still a bit swollen in the face but it gets better day by day. Once I find my cable hook-up, I'll be able to post some pics from my digital camera. Lucy

I have BCBS, they paid all but about 75.oo of eval, but they have not given me the okay yet, they are really being a butt, can't eem to please them, they have sent me 4 different letters all asking each time for something else, saying at first I have it then I don't, well I know its all there or my Dr. would not of sent it in. I think they are waiting for the first of the year, at this time I have all my co-pays paid. Its all about money ya know.. The heck with my health. or having 2 differeny Drs. write letter of necessity. Sorry I just have been so down because of this whole thing,

Mine was covered except for about $70
