For anyone that has Dr.Ayloo at UIC.Or anyone can answer this I guess.I had my consult with Dr.Ayloo Oct.5th.She didn`t tell me when I should start the pre op liquid only diet.Just gave me some papers with information. One said that I had to loose 5% of my body weight before my next appt. How do I know when that is?How am I to know when I`m to start this diet?.So I assumed that once I got my clearance appts.done, she got the reports back, then she would send off for aproval from medicaid & call me with my next appt. So,I got my clearance tests done Monday & Tuesday and started the diet on my own yesterday.OMG this is harder than it was quitting smoking! I`ve already cheated.Yesterday evening!!!.Today I started feeling like I was trying to get light headed, nervous & trembly, sick to my stomach. As the day went on it got worse.I kept a small irritating headache most of the day.The smells from my husband fixing his food & my son cooking a pizza in the toaster oven made me want to go eat everything I could get ahold of.I`ve been mad at them, but trying to understand that they have to eat.Trying to keep my cool and not take it out on them.I`ve been depressed and trying not to let them see the tears that keep coming despite how hard I`m trying to keep them back.I AM HUNGRY!!! I only started this diet yesterday.I didn`t think I would be having withdrawls already.    So here`s the thing. Here is the pre-op liquid only food list Dr.Ayloo gave me:

These liquids can be taken in any amount as they contain very little sugar:Sugar-free beverages such as: Crystal light,Wyler`s light,Sugar-free Koolaid/Tang, diet Snapple, diet V8 Splash, diet sodas,Fruit2O,Propel, coffee or tea with sugar substitute,or water. Broth Soups(all varieties, low sodium is recommended) Sugar-free popsicles and sugar-free gelatin.

Consume these liquids in moderation;they contain larger amounts of sugar:

2-3 servings daily: 1 cup of low-fat/fat-free milk,8 oz. low-fat yogurt                                                                                                                (Dannon Light,Yoplait light, or Colombo Light)or 1/2 cup cottage cheese.

Limit to 2 cups or less each day:Sports drinks (i.e.Gatorade or

Powerade)& fruit juices-try to choose juices lower in sugar such as

apple,orange,or grapefruit.

1-2 a day:Atkins shakes,Carb Countdown,Slimfast Optima,or Carb

Solutions products.

< 3 servings each day: These foods are nutritionally, low quality foods.Regular gelatin, pop sicles,or no sugar added fudgesicles. Since I`m so far from Chiago I was able to see a nut here which she got in contact with the nut there, and she said I could have a few other things that weren`t on the list like sugar free or diet hot chocolate, sugar free pudding,2%milkfat cottage cheeze. But I am limited on milk products to 2-3 servings pr day.So my questions are, 1.Has anyone else had a hard time contactin the nurse or dietician at Dr.Ayloo`s office?Since October I`ve called the nurse 5 times because I have a lot of questions.and she`s tried to call me back no more than twice.I`ve called the dietician with no reply.

2.Am I limited to exactly what`s on this list o9r can I have similar food products like on the list? 3.Is there a certain amount of calories they want you to go by?

4.Does the surgeon tell you when to start the pre-op diet?

I would greatly apreciate any help or advice. Thanks KimberlyB

Kim, That seems like a very restricted diet, for  a long period of time. I didn't have your Dr, but I can feel for you. Please call his office, and clarify when you should start this diet.  Lisa

Hi Kim.. In my opinion, these are questions for your surgeon/dietician to answer.  As far as the diet goes.. If that's what they say you consume, then that's what they want you to consume.  I personally would not alter the "plan".   Good Luck to you! Christina

Thanks ladies for your replies.I`ve  called the office 6 times total since October and the nurse has only tried to get back with me twice.I`m going to call the receptionist(Bailett)& tell her what`s going on.Maybe she will be able to get one of them there to call me back.Oh! Did I mention Dr.Ayloo wants me to do the diet for 3 weeks instead of 2?Yeah.Just shoot me now and get it overwith!
