Hi there,

Based on your referral I called them and they said to set up an appointment for the seminar, which I will be attending on Monday. Do they really accept Medicaid (kid care) for lap band or bariatric surgery? Will they approve me? I'm 5'7 240 lbs and this sounds too good to be true, being as I do not have any medical issues due to my weight, other then being self conscious and depressed because Im not happy with the way I look, and maybe a little shortness of breath when I walk a far distance or up alot of stairs. I'm really not that obese, but I would like to lose about 75 lbs and I've been struggling to lose this weight for years. I'm wondering how long I would have to be out of work though. I'm a mom of two and I'm on maternity leave so I really can't take off more then a few days. Any information you can give me about this place, the entire process, the surgery, recovery time etc. would be greatly appreciated. I'm also in Waukegan. Thank you so much!

Hello,
For starters, your BMI has to be 35 with co-morbidities and 40 without (no health issues). At 5'7" and 240 you're BMI is 37.6, you have no health issues so more than likely IPA will not approve you.

That's not to say you can't atleast go to the seminar and get more info. Maybe you have some of the more subtle co-morbidities such as infertility or sleep apnea? The seminar is free so you don't lose out.

In my experience with Dr. Siegel, he feels very confident that IPA / Kid Care will accept me at 34.9 BMI BUT, I have 5 co-morbidities!

But yes, Siegel accepts Kid Care / IPA and you pay a $2 co-pay per visit. However, the workup with Stacy is $70 and at the time of surgery you pay a $250 Program Fee.

I just saw him for my 30 day follow-up and he submitted my case to IPA.

Also, RNY is more invasive than Lapband but even with the Lapband expect to be off work for 2 weeks!

If you have any other questions shoot me an email here!

I notice you said "I'm not sure if I made the right choice" Why is that? Did you have complications?     Jen

Hello all I have a question I have been searching to find and I havent stumbled on it yet... Are there any surgeons in Ohio who accepts Medicaid? I have Buckeye Community Health Plan. If you could email me or message back that would be so helpful. I have visited a doctor and was really excited about the lap band but she didnt accept Medicaid and so i am still looking. THANK YOU!

It might help if you ask on the Ohio board.
