MEDICAID AND MEDICARE SURGEONS LIST!
A year later and no one answered. Wow. Anyway, I was told Illinois Health Connect was the best choice, and I had already switched before I knew this.
If you have medicaid, go with Illinois Health Connect when trying to get the surgery. They seem to have less pre-approval requirements, per a bariatric coordinator that I worked with in the past.

I am looking for a lap band surgeon that accepts medicade as payment in Alabama. I live close to the Birmingham Area and I've had no luck. If anyone has any information please let me know. I am willing to travel to G.A but I would prefer to stay in Alabama. Please any response will be awesome. Thanks Brittany
Try your state board, this is for Illinois....good luck to you!

Does anyone know if Illinois medicaid covers the cost of the pysch eval that is required prior to bariatric surgery? My family dr referred me to a surgeon, and I received an informational packet from the surgeon, but they stated that the $500 consultation fee as well as the pysch eval which could be from $600-1500 is not covered. If anyone has any information on this it would help greatly!!
Thank you!
Amy
Thank you!

Medicaid covered mine with a $2 co-pay, but, ya gotta find a doctor that will accept it because they dont pay very much for it.

Hello everyone,
I am from Joliet, Ill and I am new to posting this week
I just got started today with Mercy Hospital in Chicago who takes the medicaid card for LAP Band. My first appointment was today and I paid a $2 co-pay. I filled out my initial history paperwork, weighed in, had a surgeon consult for 30 minutes, a psych eval, a nutrionist exam, an EKG, my blood work, all Xrays and my primary faxed referral. I have my required 2 preop classes tomm and thursday. They worked really fast since I was prepared to stay all day to get all of it done.

I have Medicaid (IllinoisPublic Aid) and I was able to have my duodenal switch through Peoria Surgical Group. There is a $395 program fee for the pre-surgery classes, lifetime support groups and classes, 3 body composition scans, class with the nutritionist and many other "extras" (and it is totally worth it!) and the psych eval was with one of their psych's who does not take Medicaid but the cost was $300 and they will make payment arrangements with you (payment arrangements can also be made with the program fee as well). Other then that everything else was covered 100%. I even had my surgery laproscopically instead of open (which was great for me!). I chose Dr. Marshall but there are also two other bariatric surgeons there as well. I would highly recommend Peoria Surgical Group.
