I know this may sound silly, I have been craving a cup of coffee and I looked over my paper work and I see  nothing about no coffee just about avoiding soda.. I just was wondering if anyone has any advice.. I could use it, By the way I started purees and today was an ok day I had a little oatmeal, some peanut butter(heaven), and some mashed potatoes maybe a spoonfull of each.... LOL but it was good.... Thanks Friends...

I seem to remember having to stay away from caffeine for a while after surgery....my surgeon said to avoid it for a few months after surgery but I'm not sure exactly the reason. But I can totally understand the craving for coffee....I'm a Starbucks addict. Have a great evening!!! Paula

Paula, early POs need to stay away from caffeine because it dehydrates the body of fluids and they have a hard enough time getting all their water in as is. Christine

Martha, I would stay away from it. The caffeine can cause dehydration and you will be having enough problems getting all your liquids in let alone then depleting your body of what you just took out of it with the caffeine. Christine

Hi Martha, I did not drink coffee until after my 30 day check up.  At that point I asked if I could have coffee and I was told decaf in small amounts.  As Chris said, it does dehydrate you and at this point it is hard enough to get in all the liquids required.  I really did not miss it and I was a coffee addict.  I drank hot green tea and sugar free apple cider mix for the hot liquids when I was freezing.  I do drink regular coffee now, but at most 2 cups per day and because of that, I drink extra water to make up for the coffee. Ask your doctor, some will say no and some will okay it after a while.  Believe  it or not, I suffered no withdrawl symptoms at all, or if I did, I did not notice as I was too busy trying to figure out how to sip all tha****er in one day :-) Mary

My doctor said the only reason they tell you to stay away from it is because it stimulates your appetite. I have 2 or 3 cups a week and I don't have a problem. theresa, Rockford bs/current/goal 234/198/135
