I need someone to calm me
My surgery is Thursday, I was really excited all week-end about it. Today I read Janet's post about her neighbor's M-I-L getting turned off her life support because of a failed gastric bypass, and now I'm a mess! I can't stop thinking about it! Does anyone else know more information about that situation?
Mendy

Dear Mendy:
I don't have any more info about that particular case, but I'm sure that there is more to it than "failed gastric bypass".
PLEASE try to relax. Do not let one horror story freak you out, when you have so many success stories right here! We all had our nerves, but if you follow your doctor's instructions to a "T" you should be fine.
Your new healthy life is right around the corner!
Hi Mendy -
There is probably nothing I can say to calm your nerves. The success rate certainly ways out the other. There is risk with any surgery but remember, that is why our surgeons are so thorough. Sometimes we whine because of all the hoops we have to jump thru but they want to make sure we are healthy and ready for a major surgery such as this. I trust all will be fine and you will be on the losing side in no time. Keep a positive attitude..
HUGS,
Christina
First, congratulations on your upcoming surgery Thursday! It is a scary thought too, because you know that you are making a lifelong change.
But keep in mind that any surgery has risks, and you knew that going in. Our attitudes make a world of difference and I feel that you will be a success!
I have total faith in Dr. Oliphant, he's an amazing surgeon and I would trust him with any surgery!
I don't know more about the other situation ... but I would almost bet that it was not just a "failed GBS" ... more likely a heart attack or a blood clot.
Please remember that everyone's situation is different, and you are in the best of hands for a surgeon, he truly cares about his patients.
