Last Place

So, remember how I was going to walk in that 5K on Saturday? I walked....and walked...and walked.........and......... I came in LAST PLACE !!!    Hooray for me!!!!! It was a fun day though....I met some really nice people out there.   It was mostly runners, so I'm not that disappointed with coming in last....Probably about 15 people walked the course and a lot of them told me they also jogged part of the way.  I blamed my poor time on the dog.  After all, he had to stop at trees, and there were a LOT of trees!! LOL!   I think Copper may be retiring from the actual 5K's....he doesn't really enjoy them and I had to carry him about 1/2 the course. Next one is on Thanksgiving, I think I'll bring another walking partner. I do realize that a year ago I wouldn't have been able to walk in a 5K...so last place really isn't so bad after all.   Paula

Heck in my eyes, you came in first!  You finished, even with all those darn trees to distract Cooper.  lol congrats on doing that and I am looking forward to doing things like that when I can as well.

Thanks Monica! I am pretty psyched that I finished....Also, that I attended this one ALONE (except for the four-legged kid).   Usually, I wind up meeting someone to walk with...but this time we were pretty much alone on the course...couldn't see anyone ahead of, or behind us on the path....but that was actually part of the beauty of it.   As I walked along, it was pretty quiet....except for Copper's nametag jingling while he trudged along.   I will definitely walk that path again...it was soooo beautiful.   Keep me in mind if you ever need a walking partner!  BUT you finished and that is all that is important. Where was the 5K at? We had one here in Itasca yesterday also. My first 5K I came in 3rd from last but did not care because I finished and that is all that counted. Christine

Hi Christine, I DID finish!!! You are right....that was what counted the most. We walked in Fullersburg Woods....in  Oakbrook,IL......Spring Rd/York Rd (south of 31st st).  It is a beautiful area....there is some sort of waterfall (kind of likea small dam) and a corn mill with a water wheel....oh, and there was a bridge that we crossed, too.   Nothing like my usual place to walk in the forest preserves where it's pretty boring. They have an equestrian trail there...I was hoping to see some horseback riders. I heard about that 5K in Itasca but I had already signed up for the other one.  If you hear of any more, please let me know.  I think there's one in Lemont coming up that looks pretty interesting...for the Veteran's Hwy. I'm addicted to walking!!! Paula

I am embarassed to say that I have never been to that mill at that historic area. I live so close to it. Heck, I have lived in Itasca all my life and 4 years ago was the first time I had ever gone to Morton Arboritum, shame, shame on me. There is so much history in my area and DuPage county.  I guess the 5K here had something like 120 people; pretty good for a first time event with relatively no advertising. My chief wanted the guy at the nature center to cancel and then have it next year because they did not start planning it until 6 months ago. My boss and his wife an Ironman runners. Chris
