DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF ANY HOSPITALS THAT ARE GOOD WITH POST OPS LIKE US IN IL. PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I WANT TO KNOW WHERE I CAN GO IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY LIKE A NASTY STOMACH ACHE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, AND GET QUALITY CARE.   I ONCE HAD A REAL BAD STOMACH ACHE AND WENT TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL THEY IGNORED ME AND WERE NOT VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THE SURGERY.  I HAD AWFUL BELLY PAINS AND WAS FORCED TO WAIT 6 HOURS IN THE WAITING ROOM AT ALEXIAN BROS. HOSPITAL IN ELK GROVE VILLAGE. I WENT TO NORTHERN IL MEDICAL CENTER WHEN I WAS DEHYDRATED AND THOUGHT I HAD GALLSTONES AND HADEN'T POOPED IN FOREVER. THEY GAVE ME AN XRAY AND SAID NO OBSTRUCTIONS SO ALL WAS GOOD WITH AN IV BAG. I JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYBODY KNOWS ANOTHER HOSPITAL THAT IS IN NORTHERN IL PREFERABLY THE NORTHWEST SUBURBS THAT IS KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THE SURGERY SHOULD SOMETHING SERIOUS ARISE THEY WOULD KNOW TO SCOPE FOR LOOSE STAPLES OR CHECK FOR A HERNIA OR BOWEL OBSTRUCTION OR ANEMIA  OR SOMETHING RELATED TO BARIATRIC  SURGERY. SOME HOSPITALS BY ME INCLUDE SHERMAN HOSPITAL, ST. JOSEPHS HOSPITAL BOTH IN ELGIN, NORTHERN IL MEDICAL CENTER IN MCHENRY. GOOD SHEPARD HOSPITAL IN BARRINGTON. WOODSTOCK MEMORIAL AND I AM NOT SURE OF ANY OTHERS, IF YOU LIVE IN MY AREA AND KNOW OF A HOSPITAL THAT I KNOW I CAN GO TO THAT CAN HELP IN A SEVERE EMERGENCY. MY SURGEONS HOSPITAL IS 2 1/2 HOURS AWAY. SO THAT I S NOT IDEAL. WELL, LET ME KNOW THANKS!

I believe that Alexian Brothers performs the surgery so not sure why they couldn't assist you.  Why don't you discuss options with your surgeon ?  I would guess they can give  you the best advice.

Good Luck!!!

Your best bet when in distress is to contact your surgeon.  Even though he/she is very far away from you they can direct you to the appropriate care facility. I find that St. Alexius is usually not as hectic as Alexian Brothers, but I don't know where you're located.
Regards and hugs,

Liz, where is it that you live? The one thing that I would recommend if you are ever in a situation like this again is for you to insist that the ER doc contacts your WLS surgeon. As far as ABMC in EGV that is a WLS hospital and they usually have WLS docs on call in the ER. Many of the hospitals that you mentioned do bariatric surgery. A patient always, always needs to be proactive in their own care even while in the ER, unless they come in unconscious. I would also recommend that if you are living in the western 'burbs area that you change your care to a WLS doc that is local. There are many around here that will take on a patient of another WLS doc. You can go on the www.asbs.org site and find a doc that will do that. I would highly recommend my surgeon, Dr Jeffrey Rosen at LifeWeigh Bariatrics (see his ad in lower left corner). There are others on the asbs site to check out if Downers is not local to you.  Christine

I had a great experience at Condell Medical Center in Libertyvile. I had RNY with Dr. Leslie McClellan who was excellent. Not sure where you live...but let me know if you have any specific questions.
