hospital rooms are notorious for being warm. Think of it you are in an enclosed room with no window to open up AND you are laying on a mattress that is made of plastic.

Hi Marilyn, Hospital rooms are very warm and you may be hot after surgery.  The engineering staff can only do so much to cool your room.  I brought the fan,but was lucky to not need it as even though it was October and still warm, the room wasn't overly hot.  The list Lisa provided is good, my iPod was my after surgery present to myself. I would also add something really loose and comfortable (old and ratty incase of leak) for the trip home.  Most likely you will be bloated and want to feel comfortable.
