Surgeon Consultation Today
I have my consultation with the surgeon today, Dr. Oliphant from Carle in Urbana, IL. He will only do the Gastric Bypass surgery. Any suggestions on questions I should ask? I'm very nervous. This finally feels real. I've gone through the 6 month supervised diet, done the psych eval and met with his dietician. I guess this is it!
How exciting! Make sure he takes you through the procedure, what you can expect, ect.
I would ask how long he has been doing RNY and how many he does each week.
Does he do Lap as well as open?
How soon would he be able to do the surgery?
What type of post surgery support is available?
What other preop testing is needed?

The appointment with Dr. Oliphant went very well. He seems like a great doctor. My husband was impressed by the fact that he didn't try to "sell" the surgery. He was very matter of fact about the risks and the fact that it is a tool to help you lose weight and avoid health problems, not to "just get skinny" as he said. He examined me and said he could do it lapascopically, so that was a relief. He only does the RNY because he believes it has the best long term results. There is another surgeon in the office that does lap band. Thanks for asking!! I'll post more later!
