see me because they say my Aetna PPO, states that "Bariatic Surgery is not a coverd surgery". At LifeWeigh they say I cannot even appeal that type of info and at my currenct place ( Riverside Medical Ctr) she said she is "appealing", well, since last February that is.. So, what is your take on this ? They said to call my HR guy and have them put a rider on the insurance policy. Has anyone heard of this ? My company is a small company and if it can be done( I think ?), I would think they would, plus my mom manages the business and can make changes like that. Are the riders really expensive? And why would one bariatric place say they can work on it ( that may be why im still waiting is that they really don't know what their doing) and this one know before I even come in for a appointment ? Any insight anyone ?

If your insurance plan excludes bariatric surgery there is really nothing you can do. It's not the insurance company that is preventing the surgery but your company.  You can go and talk to Human Resources and see if they will be changing or adding another insurance choice at your next open enrollment that does all this type of surgery. Good luck.

This is only my understanding as to how it works with the insurance companies and I could be way off so if anyone else wants to chime in, please do so. I really do not have a good answer for you but do feel very confident that the LifeWeigh Team knows their stuff and if they say you need a rider then you probably need a rider.  The roadblock you are having is due to the fact that your employer has opted to omit Morbid Obesity Coverage.  If the policy does not have coverage for Morbid Obesity Treatment, then you probably are facing a losing battle unless you can get your employer to add on the rider and I have no idea how costly it is. The insurance company determines if it is medically necessary but if your employer does not cover it, then it's out of the insurance companies control.

Just my two cents, Christina

You are 100% correct Christina-every year  UPS reviews coverages and makes changes, usually to benefit the company's advantage, not the employees.  She can try to talking to HR, but ultimately it will be what benefits the company's bottom line and not what benefits the employee. If her policy does not cover Bariatric Surgery for any reason, then she is on her own , unfortuneately.  Maybe her Mom will have some pull-I wish her well.  Good Luck-Janet K

Kiddo, if you talked with Barbie or Gail they know their stuff. I second what the rest have said about the rider for your insurance. Chris
