Hello my name is Jennifer and I am waiting for a surgery date for gastric bypass. I have been struggling with swollen feet for over 6 months now. It is so painful my PCP doesn't really offer and help in this area. Does any one else suffer from this? If so what do you do to help aside from lying down! In pain.... Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, I too am waiting to get  weight loss surgery, but I am having theLapband instead. My legs are always swollen. My Dr recommened using surgial stockings everyday, and keep the legs elevated as much as possible. I also take 2 water pills aday.  Lisa

I just wanted to say that I feel your pain. I really cannot reply from a medical standpoint because I am a lay person, but I really am surprised that your PCP left you hanging on this issue. I really think that you should press s/he on this issue. You will need to be your own advocate here and demand an answer. You have to stand up for yourself (figuratively that is).  I cannot say if there is an underlying medical reason for why it is happening other than I have had and still have swollen feet and ankles at times. For me it is the weather, how much I do or do not drink as far as water goes and I also have had a bad sprain to my right ankle and that is the one that is most affected. Take care. Christine

I also suffered with swollen feet and legs before surgery.  In fact I now wear a size 9 shoe when before surgery I was stuffing my swollen feet into a size 11. Anyway, a coupld of natural things that help a little:  Ice tea and asparagus.  Both are natural diaretics.  And keep your feet elevated as much as possible. By the way, you've chosen a great surgeon You'll love Dr. Guske!
Regards and hugs,

I'm always swolen too but as my 6 month diet progresses I'm noticing less and less swelling.  I'm hoping when I finally do get the surgery the swelling will go away with the weight!
