What happend to the clinic in Belvidere? I had my surgery in Nov.6 2006. Now I feel so lost. On top of everything now I am starting to have problems with my surgery and I won't get to go back to Dr.Boe. This really sucks! Stacey

this might be some of the problem, do not know for sure but this was on the ch 17 news today: WTVO news report 2/6/2007 Malpractice Suit Settled Belvidere- A malpractice lawsuit against a local health care facility has been settled out of court. Kathryn Bonwell claimed the former Bariatric Treatment Center in Belvidere was negligent in the death of her husband, Joe. The facility offered bariatric programs and weight reduction surgeries for obese people. A four week trial was set to begin Tuesday in Boone County. However, both sides finalized a settlement late Tuesday night. Northwest Suburban Community Hospital, where the clinic was located, agreed to pay $1.2 million in damages. A separate, confidential settlement was reached with Bariatric Treatment Centers. Joe Bonwell would have been 40 years old Wednesday. The Bariatric Treatment Center has since closed citing low patient demand as the reason. However, numerous other lawsuits have been filed against the facility. Attorneys for the company did not want to comment on the settlement.

Greg, That very well may be part of it but I believe that the low patient part has a real big part in it also. That part has had a hand in many of the larger centers across the country folding (low patient demand). The common person will never really know the whole story. Chris

I'm curious about the "numerous other lawsuits" part. I'd like to see the figures on that, do you know if WTVO had any other information? Terry

law suite/malpractice claims are a matter of public record and can be obtained from the state. In addition, there are many companies now that will provide you with the information for a fee. jeannine

I was looking into having surgery there as well, I was just going to do it, well in researching that place I have learned they are a chop shop of centers. I found a Dr Joyce he is in Joilet and is a center of excellence I would suggest to keep looking for a better place. I am not sure how true this is but I haveheard that any surgon can do the surgeries as long as they attend a weekend semenar -- that is pretty scarry... just a weekend semenar to do major surgery... please keep looking for a good doctor!! good luck
