Losing too much weight before surgery???
Just a question for everyone. But I have been on my supervised diet for 3 months now and I have lost 12lbs. How much can you actually loose during that period. I am afraid that the insurance will say "oh you lost to much weight during your supervised period, you are obviously successful, you don't need to surgery". I have BCBS and I know they can be tough. I am still over 35 BMI with comorbidities. I am afraid that they will deny me. At this rate I will end up losing 24lbs in 6 months, which is good for me but again I am not sure with the ins. I also had another question. I know that there are support groups through St. Joe's and Silver Cross Hospital's in Joliet. However I am having a hard time getting calls back on when those groups are meeting. If anyone has guidance that would be great. Thank you to all of you!

Kelly -
I lost more weight than it sounds like you will but I think that I started out higher than you did. I can not remember my beginning of this journey weight but I lost about 28 pounds during my doctor supervised diet. Now I did start higher than you because my BMI the day of surgery was 45 and I have different insurance than you. I do not know how bc/bs works but I would not stop losing weight just to get approved for the surgery, that is not good either.
St. Joe's support group is the third Monday of every month. I THINK it is 6:30 but honestly I have been so bad at going to support group I can not remember. IF I get another letter in the mail reminding me about support group I will post and let you know but I know for a fact it is the third Monday of the month.
I am not sure if you are willing to drive to Mokena but a little further down there is a post about someone starting a small support group in Mokena. Something for you to think about at least.
Where are you having your surgery?
Good luck!
Nancy
Hi Kelly,
I am having my surgery through SilverCross. Call Dr. Lahmann's office and ask them when the support groups meet. They should be able to tell you. I am having my surgery tomorrow. Whoever is doing your surgery should be able to tell you how much weight you can lose with still being eligible for surgery. I lost 50 lbs. but I started with a BMI of 60. You can alsso ask Dr. Lahmann's office. They will give you that information.
The number for Dr. Lahmann: 815-723-8571
Good Luck and keep up the good work. If you keep it up maybe you don't have to have surgery!
Feel free to contact me at [email protected]
They also have an informational meeting every Wed. night at 7:00
Good Luck,
