Hello all - I have just spoke to my insurance company. They require a 6 month supervised diet ... I am just curious how many people did this diet or how many people just followed the actions? I don't understand if you do the diet lose some weight are they still going to allow the lapband? Also, I will be working with Mercy Baratric Center in Harvard, IL ... are you able to do all the requirements (food therapy, phsy. evaluation ect.) while you are on the 6 month diet or do you have to wait until you are done?

HI Gina, im just getting started myself. But im on a 12 month diet. All you ahve to do is go in once a month and get weighed. if you lose weight that really kinda looks good on you cause it shows that you are willing to follow the diet after your surgery.so its really in your favor to lose a few pounds. thats what i was told .as far as getting all the test done. you can do that during your 6 month program. hope this helps... My PCP just wrote a letter to my insurance company that stated he had supervised me on weight loss attempts for more than one year. My insurance approved the same day they recieved his letter. I did not have to start a "new" supervised diet. I had of course discussed the importance of weight loss for my diabetes with my DR, but was never on an official "diet". I did go up and down and try to lose during the couple of years before my surgery, and he knew I was trying as we had discussed it in his office. Good luck! Sandy
