hey Lynn ... congrats on your surgery! woohoo! I go to MANY support groups around the Chicagoland area (and am constantly looking for more) ... I'd be happy to let you know about them ... it's perfectly normal to be nervous, in fact, I'd be worried if you WEREN'T nervous. What tended to calm me a bit was a tune by Bob Marley ... called "Three Little Birds" ... put it on and play it over and over ... and pretty soon you'll be singing along ... "every little thing ... gonna be all right" ... If you'd like to talk live let me know, and I'll forward you my number. In any event ... best wishes ... thoughts, cares, and prayers are with ya! Lynn, Dr Kane has his own support group that is held right at Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village. Look on his web site for support group info. I am very familiar with his group because my husband had his surgery (RNY) with Dr Rantis. Both of us have also spoken at his pre surgical seminars. You have chosen a great doctor, him and his father saved my life back in '91 after I left my gall bladder go too long before I went for help. You can PM me if you need to ask any other questions. Hi Lynn. I had Dr. Guske who is a surgeon in the same group. You are in excellent hands. I know Dr. Kane, Jr. for many years. He actually was a surgeon on the hospital staff where I work now. They have a support group for post-ops; it's the third Friday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. The Kane Center and group of docs are one of the best in their field. They have achieved the Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery. Of course, you are a bit nervous. I was too even though I am a nurse and was well informed prior to my surgery. My recovery was uneventful. I had the laparoscopic RNY at Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village. I would do it again in a heartbeat. By the time I had my surgery, I was ready. With all the testing that I had to go through, the psychological, ultrasound of the abdomen, nutritional class, pulmonologist and stress test, I was so ready. If you have any questions or would like to talk, please email me. I'm there for you if you need me! Hugs, Lucy
