Having RNY Surgery January 8, 2007 - Need Support

Hi, Everyone My surgery date is January 8th. Needless to say, I am somewhat nervous. I have not told many family/friends about my pending surgery for fear of negative responses. I need some support from the Obesityhelp community. I am very confident that the surgery will go well, however, that does not prevent me from being nervous and anxious. Help!!!!! Lora

hey Lora! Congrats on the big day ... actually, I'd be worried if you WEREN'T nervous. You're in good hands ... Dr. Nagle "assisted" on my surgery, but I believe he did my surgery, since my surgeon was leaving NW the following week ... so I do think I was one of Dr. Nagle's "firsts". I would love to come visit you at NW if you're interested, or if you'd even like to meet up sometime next week, let me know ... I'd be happy to meet you for coffee or lunch. Don't forget, we have monthly networking/support group meetings, the January one is the 17th, if you'll be up for it. One thing I WILL recommend to calm the nerves a little ... listening (and singing along) with Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds" (on several cds) ... "every little thing ... gonna be all right ...", maybe the more you hear it, the more you'll believe it! Take care, I look forward to talking with you. Karyn

Hi Karyn (and everyone else)...I haven't been on the Illinois board yet, I usually go to the Nov. 06 or RNY board. I am interested in the monthly support group meetings, and am wondering where they meet. I live in Des Plaines, and if it is at all possible, I'd love to come. Can you give me some information? Hi Lora It's normal to be nervous right before the surgery. You are taking a step that is going to change your life forever. I was in your shoes just one year ago. My Surgaversary is January 3rd and it has been a wild ride to say the least. You just have to keep your focus on "the end in mind." Think ahead to next New Year Eve when you will be a healthier, happier and yes, thinner Lora I wish you an uneventful surgery and a smooth and easy recovery! Sending you many hugs, Ronna

Hey, I know this is kind of late but did you check out the vertical sleeve? I am scheduled to have it done on the 12th of Jan. I too am nervous but I am confident I have made the right decision. Surgery is always scary but you are going to have a great outcome. I am sure once everything has been done and you are feeling great and skinny you will ask yourself why was I worried. I haven't told alot of people as well, partly because even tho it will be because of surgery I want people to say, wow, you look great and not know that it was surgery that made it possible. I am going to Mexico to have my surgery done because I have to pay for it myself so at least you don't have to add those things to your worries. You will do fine, I am sure of it. Hi, Lora! Congrats on your upcoming surgery date! You're in great hands with Dr. Cahill. I believe he is one of the best surgeons out there for this surgery. Tomorrow is my 3 year anniversary and I have had no complications. Dr. Cahill also has the best aftercare program. It is normal to be nervous, I would be lieing to you if I said it didn't happen to me. It will all be over soon and you will be on the losing side.
