My husband had open gastric bypass on Wednesday and although I realize everyone's pain tolerance is different. I just wanted to know how long to kind of expect him to have this post op pain. I think he is doing really well for the first day post op. He is up sitting in a chair and walking with help. He still has drains in, ng tube, catheter and etc. It's just hard to see someone you love in such pain. I think I just need a little reassurance.

Remember he had major surgery. Encourage him to use his pain meds to keep him comfortable. Even after he comes home there will be pain. But hopefully they wills end him home with a liquid pain med that will help take the edge off. I do remember being uncomfortable for about a week or so after I got home, but I had Lap RNY so it's a bit different. Once all the drains are out he will feel lots better. Best of luck to you both.
