My insurance company, BCBS of Illinois, requires a 6 month Dr supervised diet, but they also say you can use a comercial diet such as WW, LA Wt loss, etc. I had done LA in the past and so I got my paper work and i called my ins co today, and now they say that I still need documentation from my dr saying that I was on LA. I DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO!!! Does anyone know if there is a way around this?

What they are asking for is not unusual. They want the additional doctor documentation along with the the other months of diet trys on LA. The want the medical professional charting in addition to LA. What they are looking for is that your doctor discussed your time with LA Weight Loss and what was and was not working for you plus your weigh ins with your doctor. You better get it in writing exactly what they want otherwise each time you call back to find out an answer to the same question you are probably going to get a different answer. You may want to try and post your question on the insurance forum message board. Chris

I don't get to post replies too often, but I had BCBS also and went thru the same thing. I just left a post on "anyway to accelerate the process" by Joanne Brown (dated 12/10). If you can, read that and hopefully it will help some. BCBS did not accept LA Wt. Loss for me. I am amazed, because I have seen a couple posts on here that talk about a 6 month diet. I had to do a 12 month diet with a nutritionist and my doctor. The only advice I can give, is to READ very carefully what they require. Just like the gal above said, get everything documented. BCBS will ask for something and if it's not written by a doctor, etc., it didn't happen. I wish you the best.

I'm more than a year out. You are lucky, at the time I had my surgery BC/BS IL required a one year doctor supervised weight loss effort (both diet and exercise). They required that the effort be charted by the doctor. SO, thatt meant that I went to WW (in my chart with my Doc as her required diet plan) weekly, worked out at a health club 2 -3 times a week and saw my doctor monthly. With each visit she put my the current weight in the chart and noted that we discussed diet and exercised. I then submitted a copy of my WW attendence record, a letter from the health club outlining my attendence, and my monthly doctor's exam records. I was pre-approved on the first try. I agree with what everyone else has written. Get the requirements and follow them to a 'T'. The requirements were posted on the BC/BS IL website when I was getting this done, but they weren't easy to find. Maybe someone here has the current url or instructions on how to find them? Wishing you the best of luck, Sandy
