poking in upper back
HI Patty--
I have no idea, but wanted to introduce myself. I live in Central Illinois and will be banded on 12-5. My BMI is close to yours and wondered what your experience has been so far. I am really struggleing with the RNY vs. Lapband thing right now. What helped you make your decision? I keep thinking that my BMI is to high for the Lapband to be successful.

Hi Patty,
What you're experiencing could be a lot of things.. if your surgery was performed laporoscopically, they have to fill your body cavity with CO2.. and that will eventually pass through your system, but sometimes it settles in pockets.. often in your shoulders, upper back and even your neck. It can cause discomfort when you breathe deeply, swallow, bend.. it depends on a lot of things. I actually had a gas pocket in my right shoulder, at the base of my neck that would stab at me each time I took a deep breath until about mid-year, this year (and I'm over 2yrs out!!). Every person is different.
That being said, if you're experiencing pain you cannot explain and it's causing you difficulty at specific times only (such as when you eat), I recommend you call your surgeon and ask about it. Unexplained pain is NEVER a small problem and no surgeon worth his or her salt will ever consider a question like this too small to take time to address.
just on the off chance it could be something more serious than gas pockets, call your doctor.
