Hello I had Surgery 2years ago 07/04, everything went real well no complications, I work out and do not eat as much as i did b4 surgery, But all of sudden i have gained massive weight, i got down to 175 that was in November 05, I'm know at 265 and gaing weight fast. What might be wrong, would I need to have the surgery again ?

Jason, RNY can be overcome. It's possible (and likely, if you didn't change how you ate -- not just the quantities) to regain all and more of your original weight -- and it sounds like that's what's happening to you. You have to ask yourself if you got lazy and stopped paying close attention to what you were putting in your mouth... do you snack? If so, on what? Is your diet carb heavy? Do you eat a lot of fried foods? How often a week do you eat fast food? The good news is you still have your tool and can make it work for you again (though it will go MUCH slower now).. I would recommend getting an appointment with a good nutritionist right away. Alexian Bros in Arlington Heights has a great bariatrics group with lots of support meetings and a fantastic nutrition team.. if you want their number, feel free to email me and I'll pass it along. Before you consider revision -- do everything you can to figure out where you went off track and see if you can get yourself back ON track.. Revision should be your last resort and only used (IMO) if your pouch has somehow failed.. doesn't sound like yours did, though.. just sounds like you got off track. You can do it, Jason.. grab hold.. jump on.. Good luck!! We'll be here when you need us. Stef Lap RNY 11/12/04 5'11" 390 -> 249 -> 175

Hi Jason ... although revisions are possible, I'd see if there's something you can do before you resort to that ... and I only think a revision would be done if there was a "problem". SO, I would #1-visit your surgeon to see if all is "in tact"; #2-perhaps have your thyroid tested, and #3-get back to basics. I do know where you're coming from. From September 2004 through July 2005 (10 months) I had gained 20 pounds. I must have been naive or something, I kind of thought you really *couldn't* gain weight like that after surgery, or at least not that fast! Geez, the entire YEAR prior to surgery I hadn't gained a single pound, and I KNOW I ate a lot more than I did in that 10 month period where I gained 20. Freaked me out. Big time. You might want to also go back to a nutritionist (I am back to seeing my nut and therapist) ... and I also realized that I will always need to "journal" my food. I stopped doing that during that 10 month period ... I thought I "had it down" ... well, obviously not. I now track my food in fitday.com ... not a "perfect" tool, but it works for me for now (there are also a few others out there too). Unfortunately, being this far out, its going to take more work ... but it can be done!! Hang in there ... if you'd ever like to meet for coffee or head to a support group, or just talk, just let me know.

Hi Jason, I am considering banding surgery, but have put it off for fear that it is not as permanent as by-pass. In my pre-surgery support and info meeting, the surgeon warned us that weight re-gain is a reality and that you can stretch your pouch. A member who was there in support of friend already had the procedure and cautioned us that it is necessary to pretty much cut out any sugary liquids (soda, fruit juices, shakes) and liquid meal replacement drinks like Slim Fast. Hope this helps! God be with you as your overcome. You are MORE than a conqueror!
