Topic: RE: Any support groups in Boise or near by?
Dr. Valentine also has fabulous support groups and educational seminars every month. His PA, Annie, leads the group and brings great help for all our changing needs. She loves and supports each member. The group is low key and also has recipe/clothing exchanges.
I really love the groups. The web address is idahoweightlossurgery.com.

Topic: DO NOT EAT TE SPINACH
WASHINGTON (AP) - Consumers nationwide should not eat fresh bagged spinach, say health officials probing a multistate outbreak of E. coli that killed at least one person and made dozens of others sick.
Food and Drug Administration and state officials don't know the cause of the outbreak, although raw, packaged spinach appears likely. "We're advising people not to eat it," said Dr. David Acheson of the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition

I was pretty much a self-pay. My Blue Cross policy paid $5000 max. Don't give up... the surgery is worth it whether you have to scrimp and make payment for the rest of your life or if your insurance covers it for you. Don't let the insurance stop you...if there's a will, you'll find a way.
Topic: RE: Question...???
Wow, this is really good news! Too bad I've already self-paid for everything I am hoping my secondary insurance will pick it up, though--hee hee. We'll see. So Kristen, who did your surgery and how are you doing at about 4 or 5 weeks out?
Topic: RE: Question...???
I was with regence BS of Idaho. They had a strict exclusion. I went ahead with BC of Idaho. I was approved for insurance on July 1st, went my surgeon on july 5th, and approved within about 2 weeks. I thought I may not qualify because of my weight, but I did. I have medically recorded Sleep Apnea, mild depression, and recent but mild asthma and high bp. I was 232 at my surgical weigh in.
Topic: RE: Hello
Hi David.
I am having surgery God willing on 8/28, which is just a bit over a week away. Dr. Oakley is performing the procedure and I know there is a support group for not only his patients, but anyone who is interested in attending. I think there is one this coming Monday 8/21. Check out www.thinidaho.com for more information.
Oh and welcome to Boise--it's a GREAT place to live!

surgery date 8/28 and self pay
Topic: RE: Question...???
My husband has BC of Idaho and they have a specific written exclusion. Not only do I know this from calling them more than once, but also everyone that I have spoken to in the WLS field (docs, nurses, hospital staff) all acknowledge that BC of Idaho will NOT pay! HUMPH! It doesn't matter that my diabetes is difficult to control and leading me to kidney disease, back and joint problems, etc--they WON'T PAY!

Topic: RE: Dr Oakleys meeting tonight??
Hi Jan,
I haven't talked to you in such a long time. How are you doing? How are you losing weight? I bet you look wonderful!! I am still trying to find a way to have the surgery. I am attempting to purchase some insurance again, even if it's expensive. Take care.

Mine was not approved unless medically necessary, well my docs wrote letters stating that it was VERY medically necessary and that without surgery I may very well die within the next couple years, the insurance companys response to this was something like "Well the appeals process can take up to two years and with you doctors stating that you might not make it that long you might want to go another route for this surgery"
HOLY FREAKIN' CRAP!!!!
Yes they actually said that to me...
sad, yes but I went to Mexico and wouldn't have it any other way...
Good luck - Jeremy
