Topic: Please pray for my friend...
Hi everyone,
I had my surgery on 8/8/01 and currently I am at goal and doing well.
A friend of mine (actually my sweetheart) needs his surgery very badly and his insurance (UHC) will not pay. His church friends and I are trying to raise the money necessary for him to have surgery. Please visit his website...www.helpsaveavoice.com.
All you need to do is listen to his voice on the website and you'll know why we need to save his life...and voice. God has already touched so many lives with his voice and his outstanding testimony. I cannot sit on the sidelines and let his doctors perform the tracheotomy on him.
Please help if you can, pass along a word of encouragement...and most importantly PRAY that God's will be done in Jimmy's life.
Thanks,
Amy Buie

Topic: Lap Band
Does anyone know a physican in Idaho who does the Lap Band fill? We had the surgery in Mexico and it is great, but I would like to find someone a little closer for my fills. Any input would be great!! THANKS!!
Topic: RE: WLS friendly PCP in Boise/Caldwell vicinity
I see Dr. Bursmeyer at Saltzer Medical Group in Nampa. She is an internist, but is extremely well versed in WLS issues, and totally supportive of those that have the surgery. She is a no-nonsense person, and can throw you off with how brisk she is, but she is good and very thorough, and I would refer anyone to her. My sister just started because I rave about her so much!
Topic: RE: WLS in Mexico?
I had an Open RNY with Dr. Aguirre in Ensenada Mexico on August 28th, 2003. My total surgery cost was $6900. I believe the cost will be going up to $8500 begining in 2004. Still at that it is fantastic deal. Going out of the country is hard. It is not for everyone. But for some it is the only realistic option. I would do it again without thinking twice my experience was what I made it. I am two and a half weeks post op and down nearly 40 pounds. Was it worth it .. YES.. was it easy NO..

Topic: RE: Anyone here who has had the Duodenal Switch DS or bpd/ds ????
Yes I have had it. I think it's the only way to go for me. As my Dr said you can eat a little more. I can eat anything including sugar I do limit my self. I had about three months of what seemed like morning sickness. But after that all of my labs come back at normal or better than, except for zink. I am so thankfull for having had the DS because no matter what I eat and I really try to stay with in my limits. I have never gained one ounce. Even when I spent 2 months of my thyroid medication due to yearly cancer screening. I was really pleased. Good Luck with your decision.
Topic: WLS friendly PCP in Boise/Caldwell vicinity
Good Morning All! I have been on this "new" WLS journey (see profile) for about 18 months now, and I am finally beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel. I pretty much have all the bases covered as far as WLS (December with Dr. Oakley), but since I moved from Weiser to Caldwell 2 years ago, I have not gone to a regular PCP. I just got new insurance, which is considered a "No-Network" plan, so I am pretty free to choose who I want for all aspects of my care. My hope is to find someone in the area who is WLS friendly/knowledgable. There are many aspects of our aftercare that are unique, so I want someone who has taken the time to be educated on this growing alternative to the "eat less/exercise" mindset. Does anyone have a PCP to suggest that might fall into that category? I would appreciate any and all feedback emailed to me since I can only get on the boards on the weekends (new job and school keep me VERY occupied).
Thank You, and best wishes to all on your journies.

Lynette,
I had the Lap-Band surgery in Acuna Mexico on April 9,2003. Dr. Jose Rodriguez did it. He is awesome! I am heading back to Acuna tomorrow for a fill as I have been unable to find a Dr. around here willing to do it. I had the 11cc band. It isn't approved in the US. I would take my kids to this Dr. for surgery if needed! And, he only charged me $6,500. There was about $100 worth of meds I had to pay for but other than that, it included the whole surgery, hospital, pre-op testing...everything.
