Information on a Boise Doc
Hello Sandy,
I don't know if I can offer much help, but I'll give it a try. We recently (June) moved to Idaho from San Diego. (Idaho is my hubby's home state) I needed to find a DR. in case I have any post-op problems. Because we live in Star, we are too far away to stay in Tricare Prime (this has been a real pain) now we are Tricare standard. I went to a ST. Lukes internest for my Diabetes. He reccomened a Dr. Oakley. Well Oakleys office called me and, they don't take Tricare. The nurse was very nice and offered a few Drs. to try. One was Dr. Korn. She didn't know too much about him. The other was Dr. Valentine in Nampa. She heard good things about him. They both take Tricare. But, you may not have a choice. When I was in San Diego, Tricare said "go to this Dr." ( so military, don't you think) Thank goodness they sent me to a wonderful Dr. I would go ahead, have your consultaion with Dr. Korn, and see how you feel. Be sure and take a list of question you might have. If you're not comfortable or feel he isn't qualified, ask Tricare for a diff. Dr. It never hurts to ask.

Sandi, I just thought I would check in on this Idaho site, and I may be able to help a bit. A friend of mine went to Dr. Korn, and she liked him, but had some problems with the surgery (a laproscopic bypass of some sort) . She doesn't even know which one, so I wonder about their teaching. They had to go back into surg. right away and be opened up to re-attach something. She was also Tri-care, so had been told to see Dr. Korn. Now, she liked him in spite of the problem, and said she would use him again. And like I said, she is clueless as to which procedure he did, so without all the facts, I couldn't say if he is good or bad. I will be having a proximal RNY done by Dr. Oakley Jan. 16. My husb. is a health-care provider, and he feels he is the best. I know he doesn't take Tri-care. I am also on Tri-care Standard, and when I applied for a consult, they also wanted me to go to Dr.Korn. But I found out that there is a way to see the Dr. of your choice, in my case, Dr. Oakley. I have to pay the Dr.'s and the Assistant's fees up front before the surgery. Than the Dr. office will bill Champus, and when that payment comes in, I will be refunded that payment amount.i.e., The Dr. fee is (a ficticious amount) $5,ooo. Than Champus pays $3,ooo. I am responsible for the $2,000 difference. So I would get back $3,000 of the $5,000 that I had paid up front, and I am also responsible for the co-pay. The hosp. will bill Champus as is normally done, and I will just pay my co-pay. I hope that is clear, I am not a super financial person! Anyway, it will cost us more, but I feel I will be getting the best surgeon! Like I said, I just made my appt. for a consult with Dr.Oakley, and they sent in the paperwork to Tri-care, and I was approved within a week, and set my surgery date! I did have good documentation of previous diets, etc., and a number of co-morbidities. That's important for an approval. Please let me know if I can help you with any more information! This is such a big step for any of us,and I went through my own agony with it before deciding to go ahead. It helps to know you have the best Dr. you can find, and if I can be helpful in any way, let me know. KtB
Thank you all for the information. I could not find any information except what was on the web for his office. I just had trepidations since he was board certified in opthomology! I changed my provider to Dr. Valentine; his credentials are on Obesityhelp.com and his staff was very informative during the phone call and I appreciated that very much. Also, they were able to get me in 3 days sooner than Dr. Korn. I already feel better about it all.
I'll keep you posted.
