Hi all, I have been reading your posts for awhile now and am finally ready to commit to weight loss surgery.  I have contacted my insurance and they say there is an exclusion, so my question to you is this.  If you used Dr. Ediger or Dr. Oakley in Boise, how much is the procedure and what other things have to happen before you have the surgery?  Any information would be appreciated. Thanks so much! Amy

Depends on the type of WLS you have.  The RNY is moer expensive than the lap band.  Dr. Korn does both procedures and what I have heard he isn't as expensive as Dr. Oakley.  I don't know anything about Dr. Ediger.  I am going to have a lapband, and I am using Dr. Korn.

What is the exclusion and what is your insurance?  I have Medicare and while they didn't cover Dr. Oakley's fee, they covered Dr. Korn's.  Dr. Oakley's fee was around $5,000 and I have no clue to the hospital fee as I was covered in both events.  Again, depending on your insurance company, the pre-surgery requirements might be different than mine.  I had to visit a nutritionist and a psychologist for starters.  Then you have to see a pulmonologist and a cardiologist for tests to see if you'd survive the stress of surgery.  You have to have a chest x-ray too.  I don't know about Dr. Oakley, but with Dr. Korn, you have to attend a seminar on Gastric Bypass and attend one of the support groups.  I know the support groups are held on the 3rd Tuesday and Dr. Oakley's are held on the 3rd Monday but I don't remember the times, sorry.  Here's Dr. Korn's List 1.  Gastric bypass seminar 2.  Gastric bypass video 3.  Gastric bypass support group meeting 4.  Exercise plan 5.  Nutritional referral 6.  Psychological referral 7.  Office visit with Dr. Korn 8.  Additional referrals / tests 9.  Office visit with Dr. Korn to set surgery date. 10.  Pre-op class @ St. Luke's 11.  Pre-op visit with Dr. Korn 12.  Surgery!  Hope this helps
