And from what I have read and experienced myself, I don't think you should be concerned about a 3# weight loss in a week at all!  Some weeks will be up, some down...earlier weeks will be more dramatic, and it'll taper off.  But just think how long it would have taken to lose the same amount on our own!  Keep your eyes on the prize at the end...you'll get there!  Deb

I'm  just over 4 weeks out, and in the middle of the pureed stage now, too, and am enjoying a lot of different things, just blended into very small pieces and eaten in small quantities.  I've had chicken, pork loin, ground beef, steak (tonight -- yum, had been craving it!), yogart, and eggs for protein.  For veggies, I've had sweet potato (yummy), baked potato, green beans and butternut squash.  Fruits -- apple sauce (no sugar added), mashed banana, baked apple, and I will soon try mashed canned peaches in juice vs. syrup (just haven't had a chance yet).  I find that as long as I grind it good in the food process I am fine.  I don't turn it into "mush," just very small pieces.  Usually I blend about 2 oz meat with about 1 oz veggie together, adding a little broth or water as needed (depending on how moist the meat is).  The things that have gotten me into trouble in this phase were bites of meat that were not pureed (no matter how well I thought I was chewing, it wasn't good enough!), sugar free chocolate pudding (on my ok list, but not good for me!), and a few tator tots that I had cooked in the toaster oven and thought might be ok...bad idea.  I have found that if it is on my list, and I puree it well, it generally works.  other proteins on my list that I haven't had include cottage cheese or ricotta cheese, tuna and other mild fish...I don't have the list in front of me right now, but those are a few I can think of.  Things to avoid would be anything with added sugar or added fat (therefore I would be cautious about regular Mayo -- maybe try low fat?).  My doc's office says use whatever spices I like, so I have used taco seasoning on ground beef and other types of seasoning to add diversity.  IT'S IMPORTANT TO TRY THINGS SLOWLY -- A LITTLE AT A TIME since different things upset different people's pouches!  I wish you all the best as you work through this and future stages!  Deb

Hi Bonnie,

3lbs is awesome this week!! How much have you lost total? When was your surgery?  My nutritionist says we have to get in 50-60gr protein a day, I dont think we should be worrying about calories right now, but I could be wrong.  Do you have a nutritionist you can call and talk to to ask about the eating? Why are you second guessing your food...what do you mean by that? Wether you should eat it or what?? I dont have much help to offer since Im not as far out as you...but I hope that helps!!  Your doing a great job, keep up the good work!!

Hi Bonnie,

I guess I didnt realize its been so long since I posted...I get on everynight, but sometimes if theres nothing going on here I just lurk on the Main Board. :)

Im diong good, I just went back to work yesterday. It was fine, but I was so tired last night I could hardly keep my eyes open so I went to bed early.  Today seems to be much better, but we didnt have preschoolers all day today, so that makes a difference.  No school tomorrow, we get the day off, so that should be nice. :)

Eating...boy, hows that going? Im only 2 weeks out, so the eating thing isnt very exciting for me.  I can have pureed and strained soups, double milk puddings, yogurt....I havent done much yogurt just because I havent bought any.  I do pudding for breakfast and either supper or lunch (i try to do it twice a day since it has more protien than the soup).  Then I do the soup for which ever meal i dont do pudding, but Im getting pretty bored with it....im too picky, and theres not a lot of cream soups to choose from.  I refuse to eat cream of mushroom, chicken, celery, ect....i cook with those, I dont htink they would taste very good?!  I do cream of potato, i sometimes mix it with broccoli and cheese soup, ive mixed turkey in with it, carrots and celery.....chicken and dumpling soup....Ive been thinking about pureeing some refried beans pretty thin so I can have those...

Do you have any suggestions?? Keep in touch, how are you doing lately??

Hi Deb,
Welcome, glad to see someone from Dr Glas**** office join in.  I am still waiting for my pysch consult to get scheduled, but as soon as I clear that should be ready to send off to the insurance company.  Have already been assigned a case manager and she appears to be great and helpful, so with any luck I will be on the losers bench in a few months.
