Topic: New to the Board in Cedar Rapids
Hi everyone! I have been reading the board for a few days and decided to bite the bullet and post!
I am new here and hoping that this board will be a support for me as I go forward with my WLS. I have been overweight my whole life and finally made the decision to have by-pass. I have had my 1st consultation with the surgeon, finished my 6 month supervised diet, had a sleep study (yes I have sleep apnea), had my psych eval (no issue there), and paper work has been submitted to my insurance company. So now I wait the 2-3 weeks to be approved (hopefully) and then schedule my surgery! I am nervous but ready to do this. I don't want to live this way anymore and feel this crappy.
Any input on what to expect pre and post op, tips about how to handle the liquid diet and pureed diet stages, etc would be awesome!!!

It's free, but you are encouraged to pledge and get pledges. I started a team on there called QC SparkPeople. So when you sign up go to teams, then join team. This is a cause that is important to me because my father in law and sister in law both have MS. Here is the link for more info.

Topic: RE: Two Months Out
My highest was 282, and I'm counting my losers bench starts @ the top, it makes me feel more successful. I'll be 4 weeks tomorrow, but I haven't had my first fill.... 4/3/09.... You hang in there, I read on here a couple of days ago, someone was 6 1/2 months out, lost 150 lbs. and had never had a fill.... wow what a inspiration!!!! It can be done. Don't skimp on your protein.. I've found egg beaters are low calorie, high protein... and if I eat them first... I'm not hungry... I've got a bad knee and walking to burn calories hurts. We took a load of clothes to the City Mission yesterday.... which made me feel better. I said goodbye to my 24,22,20's (even though I've said goodbye before, and then had to spend more due to regaining) I'm not going to do it this time.... I even took my good stuff.... you know "just in case I gain". Keep your eyes on the goal.... My first goal is 199, I just really want to get under that 200 mark.... It's been along time.

Topic: RE: One Month Post Op Appointment
Well, my bubble has been slightly deflated today. Lynn, the PA called me this afternoon and said my protein was low and he wants me to watch that closely until my next appointment. Bummer!! I am going to make sure I get 60 grams of protein everyday instead of between 50-60. If I stay on the high side of the protein, I'll be fine I think. I told him that I'd been eating pudding for some of my snacks and the dietician told me at my appointment on Friday that pudding doesn't have enough protein in it. Oh how I wish Amy had been available during the time of my post surgery eating. :-( She is back now so I feel much better.
Anyway, just a little something to be aware of for me and I will watch the protein intake closer for the time being. Any words of wisdom from those of you who had your surgeries years ago???
Thanks for listening, everyone.
Hugs,
Carol

You have been through a lot in the past two moths and your body needs time to heal. Now that you had your first fill it should start to help, but from what I have read it can take several fills to get to the "sweet spot". So hang in there, you can do this!
